When watching the PGA tournament this weekend, I saw them do a quick blurb about one of the players (sorry can't remember who) and the item he uses for a ball marker. The player uses an old Swedish coin because of his heritage. I thought this was kind of a neat idea.

My questions to everyone else are:
1. Do you use something special as a ball marker?
2. If so, what and what makes it special to you?

I use a misprinted Georgia quarter. I was told by a coin guy it was probably worth about 20 dollars. Who knows.

Being the superstitious person I am, the same quarter I have used since scoring my lowest round. Sadly, I lost it this past sat, now I need scrounge around for something....maybe a button *shrugs*

I use a ball marker I picked up at Troon North in Scottsdale. Before I had that, I'd use just a regular quarter.

I use a quarter. When I remember, and when I can find it among the the bag pockets, I use a Virginia quarter (I'm from VA)
liongolf_ike
i use a Canadian "Toonie" given to me by one of my college teammates
hobbes
I just use the marker that come with my glove. I'm not the most superstitious type.

I used to use a quarter with the year 1979 on it because my goal was to break 80 every round, but it got mixed with some loose change I had in my bag and I accidently used it in the soda machine. Now I just use a quarter no matter the year.
kiko
I use a Missouri quarter, tails side up.
DavidR
I use a sterling marker from Como!Come!. Pretty expensive but very neat.
minitour
I carry three pennies. Three is, according to Jack, the perfect number. You lose one and your fellow competitor needs one and you're still okay.

The copper tone doesn't reflect a lot of sun (I don't use new pennies...only pennies made in the 1960s) so it doesn't bother those I play with. The down side is sometimes I can't find it when I need to put the ball back down and have to search a bit.

Pesos from my honeymoon.

I use a Australian penny that i found in a used bag i bought ..

Well I just finalized the purchase of my new-to-me ball marker. It is a brass token from the Chicken Ranch in La Grange, TX. For those that aren't familiar with the Chicken Ranch, have you ever heard of or seen the movie/musical "The Best Little Whore House in Texas"? That movie/musical was based on the Chicken Ranch.

One side of the token has a picture of 2 chickens, the name of the establishment (The Chicken Ranch) and the location (La Grange, TX). The reverse side says $3 in the middle and "Good for One Night Stay" around the edge.

I use a 1982 quarter, because that's the year I was born.
TNSooner
1966 quarter...heads up, facing the hole...

I use a U.S. $1.00 Coin minted in 2000 which is just a hair larger than a quarter. I have never seen anyone else use this coin as a ball marker, as a matter of fact; I have never seen another one period!! It has an Indian Squaw with a papoose on one side and an American Eagle on the other side. I can't even describe the color. It's between Gold and Silver, but with a burnished finish which does not reflect sunlight. It's kind of neat! cool.gif
kingsummers
I use a Canadien Dollar. Not Canadien but my wife surprised me with a trip to Canada for our anniversary a couple years ago so I use the coin as a reminder of the trip.

WRXJIM
A discontinued New Zealand 5c coin (no longer use 5c coins in NZ)

No superstition, just cool cause you dont see them in the US, and it reminds me on home.

that indian squaw would be Sacajawea. It replaced the Susan B. Anthony dollar coin that plagues me whenever I buy stamps from the vending machine at the post office. I believe it's being replaced this year by the presidential dollar coins, featuring Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Madison.

I'm hoping for a Reagan coin. Til then, I'm using leftover korean and japanese coins from my trips there.

I use a Boston subway token or whatever I pull out of my bag first. My daughter and SIL both caddy at Bandon Dunes so I have a handful of ballmarkers from them.
bloodredsun
I use foreign coins. Usually an Australian 50c coin. It's a massive shiny dodecagon (it's got 12 sides) which is possibly distracting to other players but means that there's no way I can be on anyones putting line!

I also use HK 2 dollar coins which are another unusually shaped coin or NZ 2 dollar coins are also a nice size and colour.
TIMMEH24
Oregon quarter, heads up. Not really superstitious but if it works why change. I used to use a dollar coin but after loosing it I decided something with a little less value would be better.
imsocrabby
i use a coin that my dad brought back from a trip to saudi. it's pretty cool looking. i've used it for the past year.

i have been known to use a chuck e. cheese token in the past.

i also have a casino chip from The Sands......circa. a long a** time ago that i found in my grandpa's drawer.

pingeye
For now, I'm using a Malaysian coin (Ringit) similiar to a US dime but a little smaller and wider. I've used Quarters in the past. I could never find the pennies after I marked my ball. Nickels were to big and Dimes were to small.
kaiaoki
I use a Peso from 1962, head side up. It's pretty cool it says independence in spanish along the rim of the coin. It usually gets a good laugh from my plaing partners.
Viking Golfer
I use this one biggrin.gif

I use a 2 Euro coin from my vacation to Italy. The only time I've ever been to Europe was during Jack's last British Open...when Tiger won at St. Andrews. Closer than I'd ever been, yet I was still on the wrong side of the continent: in Rome, with my wife and her extended family seeking their Italian roots. While they went for a private after-hours tour of the Vatican and St. Peter's, I found an Irish pub, I swear it was the only place in the city with the Open on. Met a nice Irish couple. I was surprised they knew of Dublin, OH...and very surprised that they were drinking Budweiser.

Close to the hole I use a square coin that I found in Aruba last summer. I have never seen anyone else use square change.

Far away I use a zodiac medallion that I bought on Bourbon St. right before Katrina that is the size of a mini disc. That way I can always see it from the other side of the hole.

I use a Karateman marker from ComoCome. Check out the pic below. Its on a magnetic cap clip. Looks great, easy to slide off the clip and gives me that bit of aggression/confidence I need on the greens! I saw a few Euros on Tour using similar. Used different coins for years but got bored and enjoy using karate power!

The Boom Bapp
My dad dipped a 1971 Quarter in Gold the day after I was born, he was a Union Boilermaker and Pipefitter for Schlumberger when he younger and I have used that since as a ball marker. Use it because of my Pride toward my Pops.

Thanks Dad!
ToneBone
I use a 100 forint Hungarian coin from my recent travel back to the homeland. A cool two tone metal coin.
a_buckley1218
I have two daughters. First born in 1993 and second in 1995, so I use a quarter from each year and alternate every hole.

I like using the Titleist ball markers that come with the magnetic caps…

It’s convenient…instead of digging down in your pocket to reach for a coin..it’s right there on your cap!

Sometimes if I play a particularly memorable golf course I ask them if they have magnetic ballmarkers as a souvenir and sometimes use those in lieu of my Titleist ball marker..

I like the Titleist ball marker because it’s black lettering on a bright white background which is easy to see..
todd1100
I use 3 different markers, a Bi-Centennial Quarter (tails side up), a gold plated quarter (heads up) and a Scotty Cameron Circle T marker...I use them depending on what I'm putting for...Eagle/Birdie, it's the Cameron, Par, it's the gold quarter, bogies get the bi-centennial quarter...I don't make double bogies tongue.gif
Here's a photo of the Cameron marker:

A quarter is hard to spot?

I use a Buffalo Nickel.
BILL12x
I use a small coin that clips to a magnet on my hat or belt.

A friend uses a casino chip. I always ask him to mark it 3 to the right if he is anywhere near my line. It is waaay too thick to be used for a ball marker. I always ask him if he uses that because he couldn't find a manhole cover.

I use the same one too...LOL!! I'll use practically anything...I even used a piece of mud because I forgot to bring a marker to the course that day. My playing partner was in disbelief and was laughing so hard that he had a hard time putting, thus picked up his ball and proceeded to the next tee still laughing his arse off.

Started using a magnetic marker that clips on to the hat. I keep one or two in each bag. I really like the convenience of them. It has become a habit already to reach up and grab it now... still find myself dropping it back into my pocket on occasion.

Haven't lost one yet...
ERuhling
I use any quarter but preferably from 1993 (year I was born) I will not use a quater that has a state in the back though, I putt worse then.

Thats a sweet looking marker, but Id lose it too fast. black eye.gif

I use the one that comes off of my Titleist magnetic hat, Im not very superstitious when it comes to ball markers.

I use a Victorian Penny minted in 1901. I got it from a slot machine at Cheddar Gorge in Somerset when I was a little kid.

I always mark it tails up and then switch it over to heads up when i have to move it off of someones line, whoever came up with that idea is a genius.
Diesel
i use a Titleist marker i got with some packs of ProV's...

clip it to the g-clip magnet... using the same one for the last year...
