Jan Craig
Hi,
I'm the General Manager for Jan Craig Headcovers and I would love to hear why you love your Jan Craig's or any story about Jan Craig Headcovers...for example, any interesting headcover sightings, (pictures are a plus), conversations about Jan Craig Headcovers, encounters with animals or just a good headcover story.

We will pick the 5 best entries and the winners will receive an official WRX/Jan Craig driver headcover. The contest will run until May 11.

I look forward to your stories!

Jennifer

So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one -- big hitter, the Lama -- long, into a ten-thousand foot crevice, right at the base of this glacier. And do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga...gunga -- gunga galunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive a Jan Craig Headcover." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

Ummm...seriously, my wife won't let me buy your headcovers because she knits. She made me one for Christmas and I proceeded to ruin it by making a huge pom for the top. It took her ~6 hours to make and now it's so heavy the cover just pulls off. I like the Caddyshack story better.

I used to attend ASU. While on the range practicing with my instructor, I was hitting next to Niklas Lemke and Alejandro Canizares (both are going to be STUDS on tour). I have a maroon and gold Jan Craig headcover for my 4 wood next to the Sun Devil cover I have on my driver. Long story short, Canizares asked me where I got the cover. I pointed him in the direction of In Celebration of Golf, in Scottsdale which is where I ordered mine. Anyway, just a cool story of interacting with a European Tour winner before he hit it big.

Side note: I LOVE my Jan Craig, and will be ordering another one because I'm transferring for fall 07'...and my new school colors need a little love

We are now almost in May and nothing. I guess I am not going to win anything with this essay huh? Can you let me know whats up with my order?

I don't have any Jan Craig's but my dad has a set and whenever I am a standard bearer at PGA tour or Champions Tour events I see the majority of players using Jan Craig's with all different color combinations. I really love the thick wool material they are made out of. My favorite looking ones aren't the normal favorite (the pom poms) I like the ones with the tail thing on it. I would really love a GolfWrx Jan Craig Cover to show off at junior events and to remind me of my favorite golf website and the coolest head covers period. Thanks for the contest.

Last time I was in tokyo I took the subway and changed 3 times , then I walked 2 km all that to go and buy Jan craig headcovers at golfvox

They had the ryder cup covers , which for a french guy are a perfect choice, they also had the masters covers which are perfect for someone who lived in Brazil

If you are smarter than me you can also order a lot of models from the internet site !!!

While somewhat fictional, here is my Jan Craig story. A couple of years ago, I had a blue Ping carry bag and was rocking a blue and white set of three Jan Craig's with the big poms. The day was less than perfect weather wise, windy and cloudy with a light mist in the air. I step up to the third tee and proceed to hit a big pull, some 30 yards from the fairway and deep in the woods. Upon reaching my wayward shot, I proceed to notice my ball sitting right next to a large burrowing animal hole. By the size of the hole, my first instinct was this could be a badger. I approached slowly, with three iron in hand, but I couldn't help but snap, crackle, and pop due to the twigs and leaves on the ground. I got near the hole and saw nothing, relief replaced the tension within me. Just to be safe, I layed my entire bag over the hole thinking that it would keep any creature that lived in the hole, inside the hole. I was wrong. Covering the hole and blocking the natural light angered the biggest, orneriest gopher that ever lived. He (or she?) easily pushed my bag aside and came out with a nasty disposition and a pair of the biggest, whitest teeth I've ever seen. It was obvious the gopher had an excellent dental plan. Instinctively, I reached down and grabbed my bag, all the while keeping my 3 iron between the savage beast and myself. I knew if it came to blows, I'd need some sort of protective armor and given the limited resources at hand, my Jan Craigs would have to do. I slipped driver cover on my left hand and 3 wood cover on my right, the dance was on. The last thing I wanted was to get into a wrestling match with this mammal, I needed to keep the fight to my strengths and on my terms. Suddenly it dawned on me that I had a couple granola bars in my bag but I'd never be able to get to them with the Jan Craigs on my hands. I knew my only option would be to do something I saw in a karate movie, I'd have to kick dirt in the gophers face to temporarily blind/disorient it. This is when things got really hairy. Unbeknown to me, a second gopher had snuck around to my 6 o'clock, and was ready to pounce. As I drew my foot back and raised the three iron up, gopher #2 did just that and struck me about mid-calf. Gopher #1 "launched" for lack of a better word, and was going for my jugular. The whole thing was a trap, and I was right in the middle of it. Let me tell you, I showed reflexes I didn't know I had that day, and I'm proud to say that while they both got a mouthful of yarn, a couple granola bars, and a fairly new 3-iron, I came out of it with greater respect for nature and a reason to replace that finicky 3-iron with a hybrid and a new Jan Craig hybrid cover.

I don't actually own a Jan Craig headcover, or even any Jan Craig headcovers, and I think that that is mostly becasue I can't really afford one (student funding et al, plus postage a quater of the way around the world), although they do appear to be quite nice looking headcovers. I beleive I saw them in the 'wool', so to speak at the Ryder Cup in 2002, and they do look rather nice. Anyway due to not having one I can't really tell you a story about that. Also my current headcovers are rather self explanitory, a couple of nice Golfwrx ones that I splashed on and a plush one designed to look like a pint of Guinness that I got from a discount clothes shop which was kind of weird and unexpected. So continuing the stroy all I can really tell you is a nice tale about animals.

There once was a Fox named Rodger, who lived in a place called Homsley which is out in the New Forest in the South of England, thousands of miles from Chicargo where Jan Craig is based, and since he's only a Fox he had no clue where or what Chicargo was, what golf is and why you'd need a headcover (notice change of tense, don't know why thats in there, obviously i'm ace at Grammer), neadless to say he does like heavy metal music, he didn't really know why becasue he was only a fox and couldn't really comprehend that. But anyway one early evening he heard his favourite tune playing off in the distance and went to investigate, as he moved onto the tarmac (unbeknown to him, a road) the music got closer and closer, Rodger began to mosh (by himself somehow) in the road, the music as it happed was coming from a car driving a breakneck speeds (considering that Rodger is only a Fox and has a reltivley fragile neck compared to a car). Now I know what your all thinking, Rodger is going to meet his bitter end, and since this has been written in the past tense (mostly) he is now two dimensional on the side of the county lane, but this is not true, becasue Rodger in fact moved like lightening with the agility of of....of...of......of............a fox and dodged that speeding automobile. Now the point of that is pointless, except that it brings about the point of the driver, a lean fellow who happens to think that Sloths are the best creatures in the world. There is one called Michael who lives nowhere near Rodger in the Amazon ran forest, he comes out a night, and spends most of his life hanging upside down from a branch. Probably slower than a Fox, Michael is no less inteligent, having been blessed with a body that is so efficient he only needs to go to the toilet once a week and can provide habitats for many bugs, minibeasts, and other tiny invertebrae, a story that only really proves that two completley seperate and fictional animal chracters can quite insanly be linked by a rather stuipid story.

Sorry for wasting your time, please don't send the men in white coats.

Well, I usually try to inject some humor in the situation, but I've never been a looper or a pro jock. smile.gif

I can't offer a story about a wood headcover, but when one of my dogs, Spooky, had to be put down after a fight with massive liver cancer, I took a picture, created the graphic, and sent it off to have a putter headcover created as a tribute.

Jan Craig
Hi
checked with UPs and your covers are to be delivered tomorrow April 27.

The beer cart girl had been bored out of her mind all morning. The old coots on the course were especially stingy today and the clouds rolling in did not make her afternoon look too profitable. The course was empty. Just as she was ready to pack it in for the day, she saw a lone golfer walking up the hill towards the green where she was parked. Handsomely dressed in his light blue sweater and Banana Republic slacks, she could tell this was not her ordinary clientele. His USC Gamecocks Ping golf bag was adorned with battle scarred clubs, but the beautiful burgundy and black Jan Craig headcovers atop his woods showed him to be a man of distinctive tastes.

As their eyes met, she felt flush. Fate had kept her out on the course to meet this mysterious man. She coyly asked what she could do for him. Someone with the mind of a filthy sailor would have responded with a forward and gauche comment that would have earned them a slap across the face. But this man played it subtle, the seductive dance continuing between them. He ordered a beverage and asked if she would like to join him for a drink. Normally, she would have brushed him off like every other man that hits on the beer cart girl. But this man seemed to be cut from a different cloth. His style was impeccable and those Jan Craig headcovers screamed pure class. She grabbed a bottle of the same beer that he was drinking and said "I'm just glad you didn't order iced tea. That's all my ex drank and I can't stand the stuff anymore."

As they sat on a hill together, they enjoyed the mutual electricity between them. Nervousness turned to hunger, hunger into passion. As the sky opened up, the sprinkling rain did not stop their interlude. She knew that a man sporting Jan Craig headcovers was a man that appreciated the finer things in life. A man that knew what he wanted and made sure that he got it. This man got what he wanted. She made sure of it.

As the rain began to clear and the sun came out again, the smells of a fresh spring day hung in the humid air. She was glad to have thrown caution to the winds and spend a brief, yet intense moment with this spectacular man. He asked for her number so that he could see her again. Blushing like a schoolgirl, she told him that she would see him again on the course. He would be easy to spot with those Jan Craig headcovers.

I don't own any Jan Craig's, but I have talked to my friends about them. We all agree that these are easily some of the best headcovers on the market, but being young, we do not have the funds to purchase them. I have had friends make similar headcovers from using old socks and pom-poms (he is actually a member on this forum), and have seen the cheaper models my local proshop stocks. But... they never seem quite like the real deal, what they are trying to imitate, Jan Craig's. I have often thought about getting a new headcover for my driver, due to the negative things I have heard about the 907 headcovers (I don't like zippers!). I love the simplicity of Jan Craig's (no huge logo's or outlandish colors), and how their quality is always trying to be equaled by other companies. Whenever I hear "our model is better than xxx's kind” I want that "xxx" because I know to being copied is the greatest form of flattery, often meaning that they "xxx" is the best in the business.

Every year I struggle to find the perfect gift for my father. Last year I decided on Jan Craig headcovers. My dad is not flashy but I decided his headcovers would be. I ordered him 3 fairway wood covers in his school colors... crimson/silver (high school), purple/yellow (Western Carolina), Kelly Green/White (Marshall Univ. - formarly WV School of Business). He was estatic about them when he received them... he smiled for the entire time I was home and sports all 3 every time he plays. He brags to his playing partners about them and always makes it a point to talk about them when he can. I was glad I could bring some color to his game... since them he is also starting to add a little more color to his wardrobe ohmy.gif !!!

At the same tme I purchased 2 for myself in my college colors Navy/White (Georgia Southern). Great headcovers... often imitated, never duplicated!!!

Some 35 or so years ago, I was attending the Pensacola Open, then
a regular PGA Tour stop, and while watching Tom Watson on the range,
I saw the second set of Jan Craig headcovers I'd ever seen, the others being
Jack's. I had the opportunity to ask Tom's caddy about the covers and he told me that Tom got them from a lady that personally hand knitted them and told me her name, After some conversations with
golf pro's that I knew and some searching, I finally ran her down. If memory serves me, she was in Illinois or somewhere around those parts, and I was able to order my first set, (1&3 in dark green
with navy blue). I still have the 3 and will try to post a picture. What a wonderful career this
Company has had, shows that quality and style always last.
Thanks,
Pickerjohn

My dad had a beautiful pair of Jan Craig headcovers for one of the oldest sets of clubs I've ever seen. A set of Bobby Jones Spaulding irons and woods. After he got the headcovers he sent the woods out to be refinished so they would be as attractive as the headcovers. After dad passed, I got the clubs and headcovers using them for several years before they were stolen. Sure would be nice to replace those headcovers.

It was a cold, wet and windy day but after a long work week I needed the solitude of the golf course and nothing was going to keep me from it. Open the closet, pull out all my Gore-Tex, and head out to the course for slog-fest '07. With bag over my back and an umbrella in my hand I paid my way onto a practicallly deserted course. No carts, no problem.
The round went smooth with intermitent showers coming down and growing puddles coming up. Lift, clean, place, lift, clean, place, watch the rooster tail off the ball as it skidded and slid its way to the hole. 3 hours later I had 18 holes under my belt and was eager for a place warm and dry. The resturant was closed due to lack of business so home I went.
Off came the Gore-Tex still repellent of the days damp adventure. The shoes took a good soaking but the Gore-Tex membrane kept my socks dry and feet comfortable. Next the bag. I usually spray it down with Scotch Guard once a year but this was a new bag and hadn't gotten the treatment yet. If I could ring it out I'm sure I could've have gotten a full 32 ouncer out of it. Out came the sticks, the markers, tee's, card's, everything, all pockets were emptied. Only other thing to take care of were the covers. The Bettinardi cover was soaked through as were the Jan Craigs. The Betti was fine. It could sit out to dry next to the shoes. The JC's smelled like a Scottsman distant past, pungent damp sheep wool on a foggy, drizzely set of links over looking a torid ocean violently pounding the rocks below. These needed special attention so I proped them up for air flow to help speed the drying process.
All was good. I was now clean and dry and sitting in front of the fire reading when my dog came running into the room rag dolling something so fast I couldn't make out what it was at first. OH CRAP! It was the Jan Craig 3 wood cover. Less than a month old and now missing it's tassle and showing through from one side to the other. Aparently the scent of damp lambs wool was too much for a young pup. Put a corgie and a sheep in the same room and someones gonna get nipped.
That Monday I called the JC hotline and told them what happened. Maybe they anticipate this problem or it's happened before but the responce was casual with a no worries tone. Send it back and we'll take care of it. Off it went, back it came. 2 weeks later it was back in the bag looking fresh as the day it was originally recieved. I can't thank them enough. Professionalism is an area Jan Craig takes pride in and it shows in their products and their pesonel. Keep up the great work and you'll always have my business.

The story goes like this:

My home course hosts a world renound amateur tournament with tomorrows superstars every year (past players: Tiger Woods, Luke Donald (won twice), Bubba Watson (won the long drive contest!) and others of the worlds top players while they were still scrawny college kids, well, cept for Bubba).

Anyways, as a junior golfer who aspires to play at their level, you want to be like them in every way. From the shoes, to the clubs, to the way they carry themselves, and especially, especiallu their Jan Craig headcovers to match their team colors.

Ever since I recieved my team bag for my high school (you can see pictures in my witb), I've been in search of the perfect headcovers. The Northeast Amateur weekend answers my prayers. Jan Craig is the only way to go and I can't wait to get my hands on a blue and yellow Jan Craig headcover.

I first learned about Jan Craig headcovers through a friend of mine who ordered one recently

Since then I've gone to your website and read up on the history of the company and am impressed by the fact that these are hand woven, custom designed specifically for you!

Pretty cool!

I'm still trying to decide on how I want mine to look and look forward to placing an order in the near future! Now when I watch players on tour I look for your headcovers and it's always neat when you spot them! One of my favorite sections in Golf Digest is the "What's in Your Bag" segment and I know I have seen Jan Craig covers mentioned...

Kudos to a neat way to "personalize" your bag!

Anyone know where I can get a Jan Stevenson head cover?

If I deleted a thread from here it is because it was to risky.

Jan Stevenson was a great looking golfer. She got naked in a bathtub of golf balls back in the 1980s.

I got my first Jan Craig Headcover in May and I could not be happier. Not to be calling anything out but my Jan Craig headcover is SOOO MUCH better than my Rocket Tour headcover. After I got my Jan Craig headcover, my swing coach told me all kinds of stories of how he used to play on the Army Tour deal, and he was the only person who had one. He gave it 100% feedback, and I would aswell, I love mine. Thanks, Conor

Just want to agree with everyone how nice these are. I received my first one last week and they really are nice. They are well made and mine was delivered far sooner than the 8 weeks originally quoted.
