Seve's says he's free from the back problems that have ailed him for so long and he's making a return to the European Tour at the Madrid Open in Spain. He's 48 years old and I think it's safe to say, even with him being Seve that he has won his last win on Tour (which incidently was at the Madrid Open).
So what's the problem? Well he started on the back nine and was +5 after 6 holes and finished +6 for the round. He's absolutely at the bottom of the list and I expect to see him stay there.
Had it been any other player ()except perhaps José-Maria) I might not have cared but Seve was a huge part of the reason why I picked up golf in the early 80's. He's more than an icon in Europe. He's a living legend. He's probably one of the greatest players even who have not been able to drive the ball and his matches in the Ryder Cup are worthy of being made into a special DVD box. But I believe that his prima donna manners in the last couple of years and his current way of playing only serve to spoil the Seve brand.
I wish he would have stuck with course or club design or something where his brand would still be of great use. Now he just becomes a sad character, hopelessly out of date and looking teethless in the Era of the Tiger. His driving on the first day averaged 250 yds...
Of course, he entitled to play if he wants too but I just cannot see it doing him much good. And I don't believe he aims to prove himself on the senior Tour in two years.
Sorry about the long rant. Just my thoughts about a player I loved to watch and would like to remember for his golden days, not the current hack standard.

He's a total competitor. Like all champion boxer's they all believe they've got one more fight in them. I for one have waited to see him come back. Bad or good, I like the fire in the guy and hope to see him do well once again.

He is definitely entertaining to watch. I don't think he have the game to compete competitlvely anymore, there is no question he has the heart !

I saw the story on Golf Channel and saw him hitting his second shot in competition from his knees...I felt bad for the guy. I wish he would work on his game and try to make it to the Champions Tour instead..

I think it is both great and sad. Great in that a HOF'r and legend is out playing and the younger fans get to see an icon of the sport but sad in that most professional athletes have trouble letting go and moving on. They want that feeling of yester year when they were staring at a 10 footer to win a major tournament. Unfortunately most just end up embarassing themselves...unless of course you are Arnie and then it doesn't matter how you shoot...people just want to see you on the course.

Seve is at least very interesting. His tee ball is probably the worst of any superstar to ever play (except for maybe Billy Casper), he is argumentative, likes games-manship, not particularly friendly, controversal, always putting his foot in his mouth, has great hands. YOU GOT TO LOVE THE GUY!
