You guys in the states can qualify for the Open Championship but the final qualifying stages are in the U.K.
i.e You'd better be good or rich because it's a long way to come to try and qualify.
There is a US qualifying event for The Open Championship (aka British Open).
It will be held at Oakland Hills on July 2nd. Details on the attached link:
http://www.opengolf.com/qualifying/usa.spsThe Open is the most international of the majors and qualifying events have already been held in South Africa, Australia, Singapore. The UK and Europe final qualifying will be held at Sunningdale Golf Club, west of London, on the same day as the Oakland Hills event, July 2nd.
You need to have either played last years Open or have any Official Golf World Ranking points to qualify to enter that event.
If you are ineligible for direct entry to the events at Sunningdale or Oakland Hills, you can enter Regional Qualifying, which is held at a series of events throughout the UK on 3 and 4 July. If you qualify from one of those, you get a place at Local Final Qualifying, at one of 3 or 4 courses near Carnoustie on July 9 and 10.
Entries close on May 31st for the US event and the UK Regional Qualifying. You must have a handicap of scratch (0) or better to enter. It costs £115, about $230 to enter.
This is the entry form.
