I am looking for recommendations from WRXers for a golf course to play ; somewhere not too far from the I -89 in New Hampshire or Mass.

I will be driving from Montreal to Cape Cod soon; would like to break up the [6 hour ?] drive with a stop enroute to hit a few balls and then play 18 holes.

By the time I get into New Hampshire , I will have been driving down the I -87 for several hours and will be ready for a golf break .

Any suggestions on a nice golf course or a good practice range in southern Vermont, New Hampshire or Mass would be most welcome.

In Mass I would stop in Quincy (10 miles south of Boston on way to Cape) and play Granite Links - great course overlooking Boston. Further south you have a few nice courses in Plymouth, MA which is about 15 before the Cape. In Plymouth you have Pinehills, Crosswinds and Waverly Oaks which are all nice. One nice course in NH is the Shattuck.

you should definitely play either Pinehills in Plymouth, Mass, or Waverly Oaks on the other side of the hway. Its about 3 miles north of the bridge going over the the cape on Rte. 3. check out pinehillsgolf.com Pinehills has a superb driving range. I wouldn't bother stopping anywhere else on the way down.

I'm not sure how far down 87 you are going but if you make it close to Saratoga there are a couple of courses. The first a Saratoga Spa and the second is Saratoga National. Both a great courses.

Where you planning on playing on the cape? I was born in Hyannis. I have played a few of the courses there.

i went to school in vermont and made the drive up from ny on 87, but never really thought of finding a place to play...only recently did i discover tht theres a gem of a course at a resort called the sagamore at lake george (exit 24 coming from montreal, in NY). Im definitely gonna play it sometime on a trip up for a reunion or something, but if i were you id definitely check it out ( i dont know if u pass through NY, but its not far from VT)...it a donald ross design so it must be pretty sweet. Check it out at www.thesagamore.com...they have directions on the site. if u do play it, let me know how it is! i also used to teach tennis out in cape cod during the summers at a club called the wianno club...a short fun track in prestine condition. Id be interested in knowing some good public tacks on the cape as i def plan on making some visits up there he next few summers. drinks.gif

Redtail and shaker hills are two great golf course along the way both off of rte 495 also Stow Acres North is making a come back.

Those other courses are all good Pine hills as well 36 great holes but it's almost on the cape!

Redtail gets a huge thumbs up from me, if the condition of the course is good.
This is one of the best in NE, imho.
Yardage book recommended.

CC of NH is right off 89 - about 20 minutes north of Concord, NH. I don't know about conditions though - it might be tough there for amother month or so.

I'll second Saratoga National. It broke its way into Golf Digests top 100 public courses, looks extremely well, and I've only heard amazing reviews about it from people I've played with here in Albany. I don't think you're driving this way through 87 however, kindof round-about to get to the Cape, unless you really want to hit this top 100 course.

Thanks for all the info.

We played the Brattleboro GC in Brattleboro, VT - awesome and unique 7th hole.

Then drove down to Plymouth, MA where we played the Crosswinds GC; a fantastic course and awesome layout with significant elevation changes. Similar bold design to other Hurzdan/Fry courses I have played.

Give Crosswinds a try.

I grew up 2 minutes from The Shattuck and played that course many many times. In my opinion, it's one of the toughest courses I've ever played (slope of 153 from the tips) with water / swamp on all but a few holes (toughest course in New England). I'm heading back there in August and can't wait to play it again.
