I already posted pictures in the course review section, so check those out CLICK HERE FOR PICTURES It was an overcast day, so some aren't too bright.
I had my first round of the year this past Monday. Played at Disney's Magnolia Course, where the final 2 rounds of the Funai are held each year. Played it from the tips, about 7200 yards that day.
It was a very overcast day, rain was in the future for the late afternoon. I had a 3 pm tee time (before 3 is $155, after 3 is $80!) so I got a move on. I took the cart for 2 reasons. 1, to beat the rain, 2, it was included in the greens fee and it had a GPS system in it to tell you the yardages!
First hole was a disaster. I hadn't touched a club for the past week getting ready for my Disney/Universal trip, and I was still pumped with adrenaline after going on Summit Plummit at Blizzard Beach for the first time. For those who don't know, its a 120 foot tall water slide that rockets you down at 60 mph on your back! Tallest and fastest in the world. So, after a terrible push drive, terrible iron, terrible wedge, terrible putts, I had myself a 7. I really didn't care though, I was just taking in playing a PGA course for the first time.
Pared the next couple holes after that, calmed down a bit. Came to the 6th hole, where the Mickey bunker is, playing about 195 to the hole on the day, pin tucked right behind the mouse. Figured I'd hit a 5 iron, because I've never hit it any farther than that yardage. Hit what I thought was a solid looking shot, drawing right to the hole when poof! it landed in the bunker BEHIND the green. After a sand shot to 5 feet, and a missed putt, I had myself a bogey, but some sweet pictures of the hole. I could really care less, I'm just having a blast at this point.
Then the rains came, the grips somehow got wet, and I got aboard the bogey train after a par on the 9th hole. Stayed on the train (including an 8 on a par 5!) until the 18th, where I knocked a perfect drive down the center of the fairway, hit my 7 iron to 10 feet from the front pin guarded by a bunker, missed the left to right breaking putt, and tapped in for par. Not a bad way to tame a tough hole when some pros have the lead in a PGA tour event on Sunday coming to that tee.
89 was the final score. I'm actually happy with that. I'm not a great golfer, I'll shoot 80 on a average day at my home course. I played a nice course so close to the Magic Kingdom you could hear the whistle of the train, and the sound of music, and it was a great experience. I can't wait to watch the Funai event in the fall.
Thank you for the suggestions when I asked which course to play a few months back. Most said Osprey, which I bet is the superior course (one I'll have to play before 4 seasons takes the bulldozer to it), but I wouldn't trade my time out there for anything.
