I already posted pictures in the course review section, so check those out CLICK HERE FOR PICTURES It was an overcast day, so some aren't too bright.

I had my first round of the year this past Monday. Played at Disney's Magnolia Course, where the final 2 rounds of the Funai are held each year. Played it from the tips, about 7200 yards that day.

It was a very overcast day, rain was in the future for the late afternoon. I had a 3 pm tee time (before 3 is $155, after 3 is $80!) so I got a move on. I took the cart for 2 reasons. 1, to beat the rain, 2, it was included in the greens fee and it had a GPS system in it to tell you the yardages!

First hole was a disaster. I hadn't touched a club for the past week getting ready for my Disney/Universal trip, and I was still pumped with adrenaline after going on Summit Plummit at Blizzard Beach for the first time. For those who don't know, its a 120 foot tall water slide that rockets you down at 60 mph on your back! Tallest and fastest in the world. So, after a terrible push drive, terrible iron, terrible wedge, terrible putts, I had myself a 7. I really didn't care though, I was just taking in playing a PGA course for the first time.

Pared the next couple holes after that, calmed down a bit. Came to the 6th hole, where the Mickey bunker is, playing about 195 to the hole on the day, pin tucked right behind the mouse. Figured I'd hit a 5 iron, because I've never hit it any farther than that yardage. Hit what I thought was a solid looking shot, drawing right to the hole when poof! it landed in the bunker BEHIND the green. After a sand shot to 5 feet, and a missed putt, I had myself a bogey, but some sweet pictures of the hole. I could really care less, I'm just having a blast at this point.

Then the rains came, the grips somehow got wet, and I got aboard the bogey train after a par on the 9th hole. Stayed on the train (including an 8 on a par 5!) until the 18th, where I knocked a perfect drive down the center of the fairway, hit my 7 iron to 10 feet from the front pin guarded by a bunker, missed the left to right breaking putt, and tapped in for par. Not a bad way to tame a tough hole when some pros have the lead in a PGA tour event on Sunday coming to that tee.

89 was the final score. I'm actually happy with that. I'm not a great golfer, I'll shoot 80 on a average day at my home course. I played a nice course so close to the Magic Kingdom you could hear the whistle of the train, and the sound of music, and it was a great experience. I can't wait to watch the Funai event in the fall.

Thank you for the suggestions when I asked which course to play a few months back. Most said Osprey, which I bet is the superior course (one I'll have to play before 4 seasons takes the bulldozer to it), but I wouldn't trade my time out there for anything.

Nice reveiw, and a Nice round, the course looks hard. I passed by it 100 times when I there, looks sweet, but I was there of the Funai, and saw the pros playing, but I didn't watch it from the course or play any courses sad.gif

Nice Review... I played Magnolia in January. It was a nice course but the one thing that stuck in my mind was how long it was. We played the tips and it was windy. Flat out brutal but a nice place to play.

I am heading down there in about two weeks. I can't wait to get to play the course, and your pictures and review got me even more excited.

Has anyone rented clubs down there? I am only getting to play once and am reluctant to risk damaging or losing my clubs for one round. The web-site says they have Titleist and Cobra clubs, but I didn't know if anyone had used their rentals before? Thanks.

I didn't get a look at the rental clubs, but its upscale enough where I'd doubt you would play with anything else than what they advertise as having. They had alot of Titleist/Cobra clubs for sale in the pro-shop, so I'm guessing they are dealers of those brands. Its $55 to rent per round, so when I saw that, I picked up a used hard shell case for way less than that, and brought my own clubs.

Glad you liked the pictures. Keep your tee ball straight and you'll be fine!

When I was there, they used Titleist clubs(I called and asked), and they rental footjoy shoes.

I'm going to be playing Magnolia next Tuesday, not in like 3 days but in 10. I've played it a couple of times and I really enjoy it as well. It's quite a test at this time of year, BUT you should try playing it closer to september. It's nearly impossible to get on, but OMG is it ridiculously hard.

Another magnificent one on Disney property is LBV @ Downtown Disney. If you ever get a chance to play that one I strongly suggest it.

there are a couple of levels for rentals(my memory might be off but I think this is right as of last year)

High Handicapper

Cobra SZ Driver
SZ fairway woods
Baffler Hybrids
either 3100i/h or 3400x/h irons
not sure about the wedges or putters

Mid Handicapper(regular flex shafts)

Titleist Driver(Pretty sure its the S or T)
Titleist 3 and 5 woods
503 utility iron?
Titleist irons(possibly 755's or 695 cb's?_
Volkey Wedges
Cameron Putter

Low Handicapper(stiff Aldila NV's in the woods)

Titleist Driver(Pretty sure its the S or T)
Titleist 3 and 5 woods
Titleist irons(possibly 735's?)
Volkey Wedges
Cameron Putter

again I'm not positive on the clubs, but the set make up is pretty close to accurate from what I remember

SHHHHHHHHHH

let everyone else go play Mag and Palm

although I agree
LBV really gets a bad rap just cause "its short"

I much prefer the laid back vibe the staff and players at LBV to the "it's a PGA tour course" attitude you CAN sometimes get at Palm/Mag
