How much do you invest on lessons and how much do you invest on clubs? Do you spend more time in the classifieds or the golf academy section? In other words, are you balance in your approach or are you an over the top club ho lookin for your next fix? pimp.gif pimp.gif

I had a batch of private lessons when I started playing (bout 18 months ago), then after 6 months I spent the equivalent of about $600 on a set of Cobra irons. Now a year on I have just brought Titleist 983K(10.5) and Titleist 980 (15 deg) & (17deg).

As I am still learning I have a lesson every 6 weeks or so just as a check up and make sure no bad habits are creeping in or if things are going well to work on something new. A half hour one on one lesson costs me the equivalent of $35.00

The next purchase will be an upgraded set of irons in about 6 months or so....

So currently I would guess balanced but there are some beautiful clubs out there and it wouldn't take much for me to become a club ho...

Since I just started, I don't think I can say ballenced. I have spent about $1000 on lessons, I currently take about 1 / week for the past 9 weeks. I needed new clubs, so I spent about $2000 on new clubs. So currently I am about 2:1 on the Clubs to Lessons. I would guess next year I will be all lessons and no new clubs unless something breaks, get's lost or stolen.

Thanks,

Lessons? What are they blink.gif

I've never taken an official lesson in my life. My dad taught me everything I need to know biggrin.gif

Those of you that are getting lessons regularly ... where did you start with you handicap and where are you now?

I spend more on lessons than I do on equipment. Lessons have helped me drop my index from around 8 to scratch. IMO, you can't have a really solid, reliable game without a sound swing, and you can't get a sound swing without lessons.

I have never paid for a lesson. My parents put my bro and I in a clinic when we were about 12, I got one real lesson from a pro who I used to work with at a priv. club back in the late 80s, which was free, but I've studied the swing and know what my faults and fixes are. My advise to anybody is to know what makes a good swing and how to make the right move and you wouldn't have to pay anybody, but with that said, I plan on taking a lesson next year, just as a gut check, but that will be first one in about 20 years.

When I started taking lessons 3 months ago I was shooting about 130+ for 18 holes, now I am shooting in the 90's, well most of the time, I will squeek a 102 in there every once in a while.

Thanks,
Johnny
130 ouch....

I dont spend enough on lessons...my wife got me a series of six from a pro and I went to 4 of them. That was like 10 years ago. Maybe I should pay kascopro a visit...

anyways I always tell my friends who want to start playing golf to spend 3-4 months min at the range before stepping out on the course...I spent 6 and my first round ever was sub100. Kudos for you for sticking with it. I think if I shot 130 I would have stopped playing. blink.gif

I've never had official lessons. A video camera is all I need for feedback biggrin.gif

I started lessons with my current pro right before the summer, and basically had one every two-ish months since then. My handicap was a 14, and has dropped to a 7 since. It's still going down. I highly, highly recommend finding an instructor that you like and working with them. I went thru several before I found my current PGA pro, and my lessons have been much, much more productive than with other teachers. Teachers have different styles and beliefs, and not every teacher will be a good fit for every student.

i used to have a lesson once a month just to make sure everything was going right, a lesson would cost me $25 for half an hour.

earlier i had a lesson a week for 2 months and dropped my handicap by 4 in that time so i am thinking of doing that again.

I spend $40 every spring for a lesson.

I haven't bought any equipment for two years except for a new putter for my birthday this year...I just sold it on ebay for a net loss of $4.00.

The total money spent on what's in my bag...MP14's ($225), 2 Mizuno MP-11 wedges ($50 ea), 1 975J ($150), 1 Tight lie copy ($50), old Ping Anser putter ($20), Belding bag ($90).

I actually take anywhere between 5 to 8 lessons a year. They are 1 hour around 80.00 and hour. Pricey but he is great.

I spend ALOT on lessons. Probably about 5000.00 this year.

I normally schedule one "official" lesson each spring. Other than that I play atleast once a week with our club pro and he gives me pointers to work on while we are playing. So you could say i get a lesson once a week.

I've been working with the same PGA Pro for about 4 yrs. When I began with him, his rate seemed kinda high for the area, but he charges his established students the rate that was in place when each of them began with him. So now, I'm playing a really unrealistic rate of $120 for 4 1-hour lessons and he videos every lesson. On a couple of occassions, I've been able to talk him into a playing lesson, which is really great because he can see just what isn't transferring from the practice range to the course. With dilgent practice, he took me from an 18 to a 12 hdcp. Weather got crappy and money tight -- I'm back to a 15.

I take a lesson atleast every two weeks and most of the time every week. Before I started taking lessons I was a 24, that was 3 years ago, now I'm down to a 3-4.

A college buddy of mine recently picked up golf and forked over $500 for one month's worth of lessons. Didn't do squat for his game. I told him "mofo, you could've gotten them for free from me."
