Does anyone use Oakley prescription sunglasses? Contact lenses really bother my eyes and the only time that I wear them anymore is when playing golf. It looks like the glasses I want are going to set me back about $400, so it is a significant investment and I want to check and see if anyone has had any bad experiences. I am looking at the Flak Jacket model.

Thanks

I tried the Half Jacket XL lens package and I have to say the lens that were in them gave me headaches since the Oakley prescription fits the entire curve of the lens. I tried to play with them for a few days but they really through me off. I ended up taking them back to my doctor and they returned my money. I was also suprised how thick the lens was for each eye. I only have a 1.25 prescription and my regular glasses aren't that thick as the Oakleys came back.

Just my 2 cents....mh

i've got a pair of Oakley prescription eyeglasses (not sunglasses) and they're great. i've had at least 10 pairs of oakleys in the last 15 years or so (Mframes, wires, half jackets, juliets, etc.) and aside from having to take care of them when storing (most models don't fold flat), they've been great.

considering the cost of decent eyeglasses and sunglasses these days, $400 isn't that bad for prescription oakleys.

I have two Oakley Half Jacket frames along with four sets of perscription lens.

Fire
Persimmion (Orange)
X30-Great for overcast days
and Clear for times I play with darkness approaching.

I was playing with transition lenses in my regular glasses, however they would tint on overcast days and would through my vision and green reading off. I found myself looking under them to putt.

The lens pop out pretty easily for quick changeouts. I love them.

I have Oakley prescription glasses. I only wear them when I'm too lazy to put in my contacts. They work great for everyday use but I can't play golf with them. I feel like my depth perception is better with the contacts vs the glasses.

I've got some Maui Jim prescriptions. Never could find a pair of Oakley's that fit me well. I haven't tried mine on the course yet, but may soon as I've been getting headaches almost everytime I play when its sunny. I tried contacts a while back but could not keep the dirt out of them.

Yes. I have a pair that I always keep on when I golf. They are polarized and work great for seeing the ball. I sometimes forget that I'm wearing them.

I have had 3 pair of Oakley prescription sunglasses over the years. The clarity of vision they provide are incredible. I have astigmatism and see better with glasses than contacts. With prescription polarized Oakleys, I feel I see all the contours on the green and my eyes don't get tired on sunny days.

Thanks for the feed back everyone. I was told by the optometrist that I could return the lenses if they did not work out and I also found out that my insurance covers $55 on the glasses so I really have nothing to lose. Now I have to figure out which lenses I want.

Quick 3 questions (not clear on the Oakley website).

Which of these frames have REPLACEABLE lenses:
Half Jacket
Half Wire
M-Frame
Radar

Of these, which REPLACEABLE lenses can be prescription?

Can they come in any finish? ie Fire,Ice etc...

I am an optometrist in NC and play with the oakley brown polarized lenses. I must say this is the best color and quality lens for golfing period. Maui Jim also makes a very good product and lens, it is just what style frame you prefer. If you are getting the Rx Oakley lens, I have had some patients unable to wear that style lens due to the wrap causing some distortion. If you have high astigmatism this would be an issue, other than that you should be fine.

Hope this helps.

I have a bit of astigmatism (75 on one eye) and my prescription is also 75 on each eye.

Would you recommend prescription Oakleys or just use contacts under the shades?

Make sure when you get these that you have Oakley make them. There is a little bit of a wait to have this done but it insures the glasses are made properly and that high quality glass Oakley uses is used on your glasses.

I had a problem with the eyeglass shops wanting to send my glasses to the local maker just like every other pair of glasses. This costs about the same but you don't get the quality tinted glass from Oakley.

The Maui Jims mentioned earlier are some of the best sunglasses on the market. Unfortunately, they know that and charge for it. I was priced at $800 for a pair of Px Maui Jim's.

Hey gcatino would you mind giving me some free medical advice?

My prescription is:

Left Eye: -2.25 Cylinder -0.75 @ 1.75
Right Eye: -1.50 Cylinder -0.75 @ 8

Would my astigmatism be two high to work with the wrapped lenses of the Oakley prescription lenses?
Would you recommend polarized or non polarized?

The half jacket, mFrame and Radar have replaceable lenses. I was told that all three of these can have prescription lenses. Not sure about the different tints.

The only issue with prescription MFrames is that you can actually SEE where the lens is ground. It looks kinda goofy sad.gif I have a set of Prescription XXs (twentys) from Oakley and they work great, but one too many twilight rounds convinced me to switch to contacts. smile.gif

I don't know if I'll ever get used to my contacts but I'm trying to.It feels like the lenses don't instantaneously move with my eyeball. It's like there's a split second delay. That's why I just wanted prescription Oakleys.

I'm thinking of going with half jackets with Rx and in Ice non-polarized.

Good mix?
