Our club is considering replacing our redwood clubhouse deck with the trex material. In the long run it makes good financial sense. However, I'm concerned that it will be very slick with golf shoes, especially when wet or with a layer of frost. I was wondering if anybody out there has experience with a Trex deck at their course where golf shoes are frequently worn on the material. Is it a slippery/dangerous situation.
Any feedback is appreciated.

I am a lumber supplier and although I have never walked on composite decking with golf spikes I can can tell you that to meet building codes it will not be more slippery than natural material. Some of the composites have a woodgrain finish with tiny grooves in it that may even make it more friendly to walk on than a smooth finish wood. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Well I don't know about the trex decking, but I can tell you that wood is slippery as well.
I played just a couple of days ago and slid down a wooden bridge. It was slick. So rubber mats or some sort of traction product is in place on what ever the product may be.

i work for an architecture firm that specializes in designing clubhouses for country clubs and we will absolutely not, in any circumstance, use a wood deck. we had a project in which during construction the club had a wood deck installed and someone slipped and got injured. insurance company came after us, but since 1. we never showed it in the construction documents and 2. we had a formal letter we wrote to the club saying we don't recommend this we only ended up hit with some court costs and a waste of time.
for us, we do concrete (colored, stained, patterns), pavers, or in cases tile. tried and true, no slip, very durable.

I have a huge deck on my house made with Trex decking and it is not slippery at all. It is a good value and will hold up longer than a regular wood deck with almost no maintenance. Just washing it down each spring works for me.
