I'm looking for recommendations on places to stay and thoughts on the golf courses in Kiawah Island. I know all about the Ocean Course and I've read some general info. If anyone has anything else to share it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Wayne

ocean course is obviously the big course, but many locals will tell you that turtle point (nicklaus course) is harder - and having played both its a draw. the ocean course is more visually difficult because mounding makes the fairways look narrower than they are and the wind can fiesty. turtle point has a variety of holes, some very tight. both are fun. oak point (just before you get on the island) is a pretty fun course. no big name designer but lots of fun. cougar is alright. very tight, small greens. haven't played the osprey yet - hopefully this year.

osprey great .I think it is a Fazio, not sure.Ocean course last 5 or 6 holes are brutal, usually into the wind.Overall great golf and resort experience.

Osprey is good, Turtle Point is quite good but I would classify it below the experience of playing the Ocean Course. I think the Ocean Course was recently voted the toughest course in the US and it will host several upcoming major events. It is worth every penny.
And, as previously posted, we found a good deal on renting a condo.

But, as Muzunnogrri said, you are warned that there are alligators all over. From the deck of our condo, we watched several walk across cart paths and sidwalks just a few feet away. Residents there, know not to let their pets walk freely in the neighborhood.

There used to be a huge one in the water on #17, but I think he was moved.

And on one trip, I sat in a cart on the 7 tee box --turned around to talk to the two players in the cart behind me and noticed that the sawgrass was moving strangely behind their cart. I said something and they looked -- there was a 'small' ten foot alligator calmly walking right behind their cart to a water hole nearby.
