We're going to San Francisco this weekend and have made a tee time here, any reviews will be appreciated. Thanks.

i usually play the back 9 there because of time constraints - i like it a lot

(1)a little more expensive than other munis, but because of that a little less crowded too

(2) imho, the front 9 is a little harder and has better scenery

(3) greens tend to play a little faster than other munis ... they've also recently been punched, so they're a little sandy right now, but hopefully less so by the time you arrive

I have played it a lot. It is much improved over the years with new cart paths, better drainage, and nice greens. If it doesn't rain, the course should be good. It holds up pretty well given they do over 60,000 rounds a year. And that's the downside of this course, a ton of play. You could be in for a 5 hour round.

The views of the reservoir are protected areas is really nice from some of the holes. In terms of playing strategy, it is not a tough course, but there are some quirky holes as well as a couple of tough tee shots.

Holes to watch out for....

#3, a long par 3 from the tips. Over 200 yards and you need to be very accurate.

#5, approach shot is at least one more club, if not two.

#6 is one of the hardest approach shots with a big downhill lie

#9 is one of the toughest tee shots on the course. You need to be very straight or just hit 3W.

#12 is one club uphill to a small green. Don't be too aggressive or you will be way over.

#15 is nearly drivable if you are straight, otherwise just hit an iron.

#16-18 are pretty simple.

It's not too demanding of a course.

Thanks for the feedback.

Crystal Springs just air raided the greens, so don't be surprised. It is a good challenging course with the up and down hill lies that you get.

Played there six months ago. I love playing there. I wouldn't walk it though.

"aerated"

I guess i'll have to echo what others have already said - i played the course last week. The greens are extremely fast compared to many other public courses and also very sandy/aerated recently.

Otherwise it's a pretty good public course. Yes, the hills create some more challenging lies but there are some flat holes as well. Good fun course -- weekends are busy and long.

I have played CS numerous times and the phrase dog track always comes to mind. While there are some nice views, the conditions are consistently less than stellar (and that's putting it nicely). Additionally, if you play on the weekend, you are looking at a 5+ hour round. I highly recommend looking in the East Bay. If you are visiting from out-of-town, you can definitely do better. Just my opinion.
