i went to the pga championship in 2004. the only advice i can give you is get there plenty early and set yourself up a good hour early on a certain hole if you want to see Tiger.

If Tiger is there, and if he plays a practice round Monday, you should expect him to be between numbers 7-10 by the time you get in the gates at 8:00 a.m. He tees up EARLY for practice rounds to avoid crowds and media. If your goal is to see him, then get there early and head to Amen Corner. The stands at 12 tee box are great because you see the 2nd shots into 11, tee shots and putts on 12, and players walking from the tee at 13.
I also like hanging out around 15 green and 16 tee. In case you didn't already know this, the players have a goofy but fun tradition of trying to skip shots across the pond at 16. They will hit a normal tee shot, then head to the front of the tee box where the "2nd cut" slopes toward the water. They will hit a long iron and try to skip it a few times across the water and onto the green.
If you're an autograph seeker, the ONLY place the players are allowed to sign is between the clubhouse and the range / short game area and in the parking lot. They can not sign around the putting green or behind the clubhouse where the course is located.
Make sure you eat your fair share of pimento cheese sandwiches and egg salad sandwiches. They are about $1.50 each; a soda runs 75 cents or $1; a candy bar is 75 cents. Basically you can get a full lunch for about $5 which is a steal in today's sporting world.
Oh, almost forgot this most important tip which won't be as important to you because you are there the first day. Make sure you hit the merchandise tent and buy everything you need. They will allow you to check your bag(s) and pick them up later. This is a free service, so be sure to use it.
Take tons of pictures. Wear comfortable shoes - the course is tons more hilly than the TV shows. Layer your clothing because you never know how cool / warm it may get.
And most of all, HAVE FUN!!
Enjoy!
