Ping Eye 2
Titleist 962
Tommy Armour 845

I think these 3 clubs were all part of the "must have" list for golfers. Everyone had the Ping Eye 2 and it seemed like everyone had the 845s when they were big. Those same people who kept the 845 for a long time all moved on to the 962. When titleist brought this club out, so many good (and many not so good) golfers had them. i haven't really seen that since then.

I probably would agree with your list, I've had all those 3 mentioned sets and I thought their 3 irons was much easier to hit than many of my other sets. 845 & Eye 2 are probably one of the easier long irons to hit. Heck, I could even hit Ping Eye 2 1 iron nicely above wormburner level.

Nowdays, I just banish my 3 iron to corner of my garage and use 22* hybrids.

Gotta give love for my 990. Playing them since 2000 (b/c I can't afford new irons, not because I don't want new irons).

They aren't much of a cavity back though.

#1 "Players" CB - Tourstage Z-101's (forged)
#1 Forgving CB -- Tourstage 202's (forged)

#2 "Players" CB - TaylorMade 04' RAC CB's (Miura-forged)
#2 Forgiving CB - TaylorMade 04' RAC LT's (Cast)

#3 "Players" (plus forgiveness) - Cobra SS (forged)

The sets above are all excellent CB's, (I know because I own them all), but note the Mizuno MP-32's are in my bag! Even though MP-32's are considered "blades", I find them more playable and forgiving than most sets of "Player's" CB's. These have set a whole new standard for blades, IMO. Great sticks!

*** IMO, the best shafts for ANY of the sets above are Project X shafts with the 5-iron length at 38". I prefer the 5.5 Flex

TM 300 Forged

I play old Hogan blades now. Like 'em much better (the easier to hit issue is all mental to me. I had zero difficulty changing from cavity backs).

1) Eye 2's
2) 845's
3) Apex Edge Plus/Pro

Playing Eye 2's with Dynalites right now and love them. Forgiving but not clunky, great sole design and no need for a gap wedge.

Wow, VERY few posts for Callaway, and ONE for Cleveland... Here are my votes :

1. Cleveland TA7 Tour - Best feeling cavity I have EVER hit
2. Top Flite Tour (1997)
3. Tommy Armour 845's (Oversize)

IMO, Cleveland irons are some of the best kept secrets in the game.

In my bag -
