A good friend of mine has invited me to go with him and two others to Bandon Dunes in mid-May for 2 days of unlimited golf. Needless to say I am quite excited. What can I expect....weather, caddies, lodging, etc?

Some amazing golf, that's for sure.

Um... I would pack something for weather, just in case. Here in Oregon, the weather is pretty ridiculous.

Are you staying at the resort? We've always stayed in the Lily Pond rooms and they've always been pretty nice.

It's not mandatory to take a caddy, but I would take a caddy the first time you play each course.

I threw a dozen shag balls in my bag for the holes that route along the beach so I could hit them down out into the water while I was waiting on the tee box.

The course is an entirely different animal when the wind is blowing so if you encounter any type of weather, I wouldn't expect much.

That sums it up for me I guess -- oh and learn to keep the ball low biggrin.gif

You lucky dog; that area is definitely on my short list. Please be sure you take pics and give us unlucky souls a review. Hitum straight and low...

Take the most comfortable golf shoes you own. More that one round a day there and you will be sore. Once you factor in the wind it is more of a hike than a walk!!!

This is from another site, great pics. Should give a good look at it.

That got my juices flowing...thanks for the link.

The greatest place on earth. My best advice is play Pacific Dunes as much as possible. That course just gets better and better the more you play it and learn how to play each hole in each weather condition. Living close I have played it more times that I can count and each time I learn something new about it. The other 2 are great also but Pacific is a cut above.

i am all booked for july

1 round at bandon and 1 round at pacific for the next day
staying at the resort also and i hear the practice facility is great so i want to
properly get accustomed to conditions as best as possible before i play my rounds

i took the advice from the board and decided to use a caddy but i don't want someone too
overbearing or intense as it is my first time there and i won't be looking to shoot a career
round - i am there for fun and the scenery

Fun courses, Pacific is my favorite. Playted Pacific for the first time in a 6 club wind. Shot 42 33 for a nice little 75. Fun course, you can really make big numbers but you can easily go low too.

Dubbie,

You can expect the golf experience of a life time. I'd recommend that you take a caddie, its part of the experience.

If it wasn't next to Pacific and Bandon Dunes, I think the Trails would get more acclaim. It is a great course on its own merits.

We were there in September and had a constant but mild wind. BTW, don't trust the weather forecast for Bandon or North Bend, its completely different on the coast.

I've loaded a video of our trip on youtube.com, search for Bandon Dunes, mine is called Labor Day 2006.

Have fun.

Thought i would add that if your short game is on you will score well, but if its not you will blow up.

I suggest you play 36 a day.
The replay rates are reasonable.

Expect the wind to blow, expect to want to play as much golf as daylight allows. I went last June and it was an unbelievable trip. Accommodations were top notch, food (even in the Pub) was very good, Pac Dunes and Bandon Dunes are unbelievable. I liked Trails, too, but there's a few goofy holes that I could live without. Definitely take a caddie, you don't want to carry your bag the whole time, and they come in handy with clubbing and aiming points. If you plan on scoring, take your entire knockdown arsenal, including putting from way off the green. Anything low to the ground will do you well. Enjoy, you'll love it.

Can you say golf heaven? It is awesome! The courses are great(I like Pacific Dunes better), the practice facility is excellent, the food and drink are good as well. And the room I stayed in the Lilly Pond complex was very nice. Savor every moment you are there! And if it rains the course stays pretty dry since its built on sand dunes.
