It was fun last year to watch Phil on the range and switch between his 2 drivers!!

I'm just an average guy, but I got to play Augusta 3 years ago. Yea, it was a miracle. Here are a few pictures of me (I'm in the maroon shirt) on a few holes and eating in the club dining room (I'm on the far right) after playing 2 rounds. Unfortunately the picture in the dining room is a bit blurry. It was a nice day in late February 2004, but it was overcast. Also, the flowers and trees had yet to bloom so it wasn't as brilliantly colored as it is later during The Masters. I didn't complain though... wink.gif It was definitely an incredible experience!

What did you shoot?

85 the first round and 82 the second. I made birdies on #18 and #16. It wasn't that hard except for the greens. I know I could break 80 if I got to play it a few more times. However, I say that explaining that we played the Member Tees and not the Pros. There are only 2 sets. Some of the tees were pretty much the same (#10 & #12) and some were WAY different. #11 was at least 115 yards difference. I hit driver/sand wedge into that green both rounds. Had I hit my drive the same length I would have been hitting driver/5-wood or 3-iron. That is a big difference.

Funny you mention that. I was there in '91 and '92 and I was watching Greg Norman hitting drivers on a trajectory that never got higher than the trees surrounding the range. His balls were impacting the net about 20 or so feet up from the ground.

About 15 minutes later Davis Love and Fred Couples walked onto the range together and they both went to the far right side of the range so I walked down to watch them. Davis was hitting 3 woods, and when I say woods, I mean wooden woods from the deck almost over the top of the net and as if on cue, the ball picker came rolling across the range and both Davis and Freddy started hitting low worm-burners about head high trying to hit the cart! I believe that was the last year that Davis used persimmon woods.

Speaking of the nets...

This may be totally bogus, but I heard one of the locals down there proclaim that those nets had to be raised after 92 because of Daly's first appearance after winning the PGA in '91.

Anyone know if that's the truth? Sounds logical.

I had heard that also.

I know they are in the process of builing a new range across the street that will be a little more up to date.

The other street... if you are coming down Magnolia towards the Butler they are buying up property on the left and right. From the rummors I hear they are planning a parking garage and new practice facility. I know there was talks of rotating the range so that it would use some of the parking area now. I know that the members don't like that their patrons are being nickle and dimed to park in people lawns. Not exactly the experience they want for their guests.

here are my pics from last year.

sorry for the water marks, but I've found some of my other pics being linked around the web. Its not that I'm trying to make a buck, I just don't like it when someone else is playing off my work as their own. I sold my large format printer so if you want to make a print or use one of my pics for whatever just let me know and I'll send a clean copy.

That shot ended up on the very back edge of the green about 15 feet left of the hole. It was a good shot. We played twice and the first time I balloned one right into Rae's creek, then dropped, hit again just short of the green....trickle trickle splash. I got a triple on that hole. Then I came back and hit the good shot in the picture. I had a decent shot a bird, but it was just so fast. I barely tapped my putt from the back edge and was happy to stop it about 8 inches past the cup. I'm glad my friend took the picture during that swing.

One of the neat things is the wind. It wasn't very windy at all that day, a little but not much. My caddie, who was super, told me to to look at something. The flag on #12 was blowing to the right. The flag on #11, which is very very close to the #12 tee box (I had no idea some of the holes were so close) was blowing to the left. That was neat.

I bet you could hit that green no problem. Nerves are the biggest thing, but the shot isn't that long.

Here are a few pics from last year's Tuesday practice round. After looking at Phillypete's pics, I must have been standing next to Phillypete on the 18th tee when Phil was teeing off.

Here I am a few years back on the 2nd floor of the club house and in front of the 13th green. It was a tremendous trip.

I kind of scared Byron, but not bad.

Go to Google Maps, type in Augusta, Ga. Then hit the satelite box in the upper right. Zoom in as close as you want. Kinda fun.

Probably as close as I'll ever get.

Thats too funny...

oh and that freaking guy in that khaki jacket jumps out of the background of your pics too! He gave me such a headache. I had to do some photoshop trickery to get him to blend in a little better. Its like there is a spotlight on him.

Great photos... has anyone get any more?

GREAT thread gentlemen. Thanks for posting the pics--it won't be long now.

Here are a few more of the 120 I took last year during the Tuesday practice round. My favorite has to be the one of Tiger on the putting green. Check out the guy in the swaeter vest eyeballing Tiger. You can almost see the guy thinking, "he doesn't look so bad, I could take him."
