Since people are talking about how bad the Big Break reunion is, I was thinking of ways to recreate the show.

I think TGC should have a Big Break with some really great junior players.

If a guy can be on that show with a cross handed grip for every club, I think they mind as well have a show with junior players. These juniors would have to play just as well as the adults though.

What would you think about a Big Break with juniors?
Manywins
That is a great idea, but the Big Break is to give those journey men/women golfers just that a Big Break. I will not go into detail as you already know the purpose of the current show. I think the idea of having juniors play would not make as much sense seeing that they are still in the fundamental or beginning of their careers. Also, having juniors play and accept any money would put into question their status as an amatuer given that they would still like to retain that status.

Yeah, I understand the eligibility issue. I really was wondering what you would think of a show resembling "The Big Break" with a junior cast.

I mean really really good junior golfers. With the same if not better handicap as the adults.

It was just a question I thought I would throw out in the forums. Thanks for your input and keep the opinons coming.
phillypete
don't they already have the Drive Pitch Putt or whatever its called.

What would they play for? The show isn't for the contestants, it is for the viewers... what would make it interesting for the viewer?

Would an exemption to a tournament make someone lose there amatuer status? Thats what I would have them play for. What can you think of? At least it would be better than whats on now.

The crazed parents would most likely provide more drama than the kids themselves.....I'd watch that trainwreck in a heartbeat....

What about juniors playing for something like a year down in Orlando with David Ledbetter or something like that--it could be a scholarship type of thing.

Thats what I'm talking about!!!

I agree that the current format is getting a bit old, it would be nice if the winners actually were ready to play on whatever tour they gained exemptions on. I like the junior idea, rewarding them with a scholarship to a golf academy can do a lot of good for a young player.

Its not that easy to just perform on cue given one or two exemptions when the guys you are playing against are competing week in and week out.

I thought Paul Holtby gave it a hell of a go on the European Tour, and I really hope Tommy Gainey takes this one down. DD has game but I honestly believe Gainey could parlay a single exemption into some success.

Why couldn't they tie to a school and give the winner a scholorship (that doesn't look right....must be because I never got one...lol).....pay for the school and the player gets one year on the golf team to prove him/herself at that level.

I'll bet you'd see more ice water veins with kids than with some of the people that have choked under Big Break pressure to date.

Great ideas. Keep them coming.

I think its a good idea but a junior couldnt win a car or a bike or money or a trip. There would be a lot of issues with ametuer status and such.

The Ledbetter Academy idea is pretty good but being a junior golfer and knowing the different tours I think a really good idea would be to offer a year expemtion on the AJGA. Its tough to start out on the AJGA and to get a full exemption for the year would be amazing, also maybe a spot in the US Junior. I mean i watch that show and this one is really boring. They cant even hit a green! And the closest they can get is 18 yards. Thats rediculous. I think the junior idea would be great or even young amatuers wouldnt be bad. Anything but 40 year old hacks. Com'n TGC.

Good ideas here, I think The Big break needs to do something different with their format. Big Break Reunion...give me a break, I would rather have a show with DD, Dave, Kelly and now that would be more interesting. Plus I notice Bri came second to last at her exemption tournament, are these players really good enough to give them their "big break"?

Dougherty, good idea, maybe having a junior BB or even, guys who were on college teams and didnt make it would be more interesting and actually have some effect on someones carreer.

I'd also love too see someone hit a cut from 180, around a tree, over water and 2 bunkers to a front left pin...now that would be a shot.. this breaking glass thing is getting old.

Of course they aren't good enough to give them a Big Break - if they were, they wouldn't need a big break. That's kind of the point... I also doubt we'll see juniors any time soon - the producers aren't really interested in who is deserving or who might actually make it, they want people that the viewers will either empathize with or who viewers can root against. They want to hook viewers into watching the show.

Juniors really don't fit the bill. Nobody wants to root against them, no adults can empathize with them, they have a whole life to develop their game and go to college etc. so nobody feels they need a break. While it might be nice, I just don't see it happening.

Here's to hoping I'm wrong drinks.gif

I really like the idea of an AJGA membership.

If they won a membership they would not be loosing their amateur status, correct?

Those are some great ideas guys.

i hope Nikki wins. I like the "look"

I really like the idea of having the junior golfers competing for the AJGA full year exemption, a spot in the Junior Am, or the leadbetter academy. I think ethier or all of those would make great things for juniors to compete for. It'd also have to be the really good juniors..like below a 3 handicap. There's plenty of juniors that could play better then those people on the big break right now.

BTW someone mentioned the drive, chip, and putt..its for 7-14 year olds and it really isn't that exciting to watch. I did it one year and got 3rd for my area..but couldn't go to regionals because my parents couldn't take.

Well i have played with Don Donatello and he was at the Paula Creamer and Peter Jacobson for kids at River Strand Golf Club in Bradenton, FL on saturday.

DD was playing with my buddy and slipped him a hint that Big Break is trying to put together a Junior big break and that DD was going to put his name on the list for the Junior Big Break.

Don't shoot the messenger but that is from the mouth of DD.
