CARLSBAD, Calif. (January 26, 2007) -- adidas Golf, a brand of the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Company, is introducing its POWERBAND golf shoe with an unprecedented promotion at this week's PGA Tour stop in Arizona. If an adidas Golf staff player wearing the POWERBAND shoes registers a hole-in-one at the famed 16th hole, 10,000 fans who registered at one of the 10 local Van's Golf Shops in the greater Phoenix area, or at the adidas Golf booth at the FBR Open Expo Center, will be randomly selected to receive a free pair of the POWERBAND shoes.

Among the PGA Tour stars scheduled to wear the POWERBAND include: Peter Lonard, Sean O'Hair, Justin Rose, Greg Owen, Nathan Green, Tom Lehman, Fred Funk, John Daly and Pat Perez.

The POWERBAND is designed specifically to address the needs of the modern athlete and is engineered for today's power game. POWERBAND incorporates three sophisticated adidas Golf technologies that unite to help the athlete harness untapped power by promoting better balance, stability, and leverage. The three technologies together are known as the "power trio"

1) The POWERBAND derives its name from the first element of the power trio – The POWERBAND CHASSIS. The POWERBAND CHASSIS establishes an unprecedented level of perimeter support that inspires a strong sense of self-assurance the instant the golfer settles into address. The POWERBAND CHASSIS limits midsole compression and stabilizes the perimeter of the swing foundation. The ultra stability is accomplished by tying the cleat and the receptacle to the sidewall via the TPU support elements and a TPU perimeter shell. The POWERBAND CHASSIS has been proven by the University of Calgary Biomechanics Research Lab to increase peak pressure at the top of the backswing and increase peak pressure at impact. This increased pressure helps harness the power generated by the swing and deliver it to the ball at impact.

2) adiprene®+ is a highly resilient material that manages energy for improved response in the footbed. This technology's fast reactive response provides immediate feedback to promote improved footwork for better weight transfer and balance. The harder the player pushes it, the harder it pushes back.

3) GRIPZONE – The GRIPZONE is an integrated footbed surface that locks the plantar surface of the foot firmly in place, creating a single, solid unit between the foot and shoe, promoting maximum control during the swing. The POWERBAND's traction system is further enhanced by a proprietary cleat, specially designed by adidas Golf called Dynamic Traxion® AC. The cleats have polished surfaces that diminish clogging and improve grip throughout the round. The DTAC cleats are low profile and a turf friendly shape that eliminate spike marks. The legs of the cleats are flexible, improving grip, comfort, and durability. These cleats will be installed in every golf shoe that adidas produces from 2007 and forward.

"We worked closely with Jim Flick on the concept for this golf shoe in an effort to provide a performance advantage for the modern athlete in today's new power game," says Dave Ortley, director of global footwear for adidas Golf. "We've created the most solid and responsive swing platform in the sport of golf, enabling a new level of power, balance, and consistent ball-striking for the athlete."

Initially, the POWERBAND will be available in four color combinations starting in March 2007: running white/metallic silver/black; running white/titan metallic/black; running white/power red/metallic silver; black/lt. metallic silver/black. The W POWERBAND (for women) will also be introduced in March 2007 in three colorways: running white/metallic silver/running white; running white/metallic silver/posie; running white/black/key lime.

The manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) is $140 for both styles.
