Thinking about getting a new stand/carry bag. My current bag is about 10 yrs. old. Just what is out there?

Ogio's Vaporlite is a good light bag. Enough pockets for most people.

Any suggestions for a little more storage than a light bag, but still not a staff or tour bag?

Second the Ogio Vaporlite. I got one last year, and it still looks new. Its 3.5 lbs and you get more pockets than you can fill and a great organization system for your clubs. Can be had for under $100 as well, so you really can't go wrong.

Take a look at the Titleist X-77. I just picked one up and after comparing it to all the others Ping, Sun Mountain, Ogio, Callaway and Mizuno and I feel it's the Holy Grail in stand bags, comfortable carry strap, plenty of storage, insulated beverage pocket, good club management, full length dividers, separate putter well and zippered sleeves to secure the legs when using on a cart and best of all it was cheaper than the Ping Vantage which was the bag I was going to purchase.

I think they can be had for a lot less than that, closer to $60-70 on ebay. If your looking for a little more features I have zero complaints about my ogio exo, although it is going to be a bit heavier. I picked up my exo for $80-90 on ebay.

1. ogio vapourlite
2. izzo spirit II
Both bags have an excellent organization system for the woods/hybrids.

Plus it's lighter than the OGIO......

There is NO Holy Grail of Stand Bags.
Ogios -- the legs are a bit unstable and ungainly.
Ping Crazy Lite or Mite Lite - fairly flimsy
Sun Mountain - SL 3.5 straps are too thin, Lightning -- is OK at 4.2 lbs
Titleist X67 - new for 2007 - seems like a good bag.
Mizuno Aerolite 3.5 2007 - all good except for the water bottle net -- bad
Try the last three among others - the last two would be my choices if I was buying now - the Mizuno is great except the water bottle netting is not deep enough - and it should not be a net - it should have an insulated holder.
I'm waiting for the Nike Extreme Light for 2007 - they were supposed to correct the 2 issues with it. Short legs and club clumping

Sun Mountain Mini, best there is. the equivalent of the Mini Cooper for golf bags in almost every way. Great stand, SUPER LIGHT and can fit 14 clubs no problem. Plus, if you every play somewhere with caddies, they will love you...

I totally agree. This 2.5 lb bag is great. Your back will thank you. I have a 3.5 as well for days where I have to pack more extra clothing but it is not as good a bag. The mini is a gift to all walkers.

I get all of these Titleist numbers confused -- if the X76 is the 4 lb bag (it is - I looked yesterday) -- then I did check it out. Thought it was a good choice -- don't know about the top or divider system but it looked OK -- I like the strap system of the Nike Air Straps and the Izzo Strap on the Aerolite more than the Tity System. But the Tity seems one of the top 3-4 carries in the 4 lb range this year.
But not the Holy Grail for me -- a good bag, yes. One of the top choices in that weight range.
The Holy Grail bag would have among its features -- Izzo Straps or the Nike Air Straps, an insulated water bottle holder, a durable top, great divider system, internal stand mechanism, no club clumping, stable legs, 4-5 pockets, 3.5-4 lbs, water repellant, good, rubbery zippers, well integreated rain hood, umbrella strap, lined valuables pocket, a handy pocket for the rangefinder, a strap to hold the legs when carting and be somewhat sturdy. Decent colors also help.

I think the Ogio vaporlite is a fantastic bag. I think the Woode system outweighs and negative points about the bag - of which I have none. No stand bag is perfect. But this one is pretty close. The top is great, has good space, while being lightweight... And the straps are actually pretty comfortable.
Just get one that was made 2006 or later - they have the water bottle pocket and the scorecard pocket too. I think ebay has some 2006 brand new with shipping for $59 last time I looked.
The Sun Mountain 3.5 SL looks nice too, but the Woode system is what sold me on the Ogio.

I like the ogio's a lot, but besides the vaporlite their bags way a ton. I have a white Ping Hoofer Extreme and love it. It's got a lot of room and is really lite. I aslo like the 4 dividers on the top, it helps keep the weight down.
The Sun Mountain 3.5 is a great bag as well, it weighs only 3.5 pounds.

Ogio Fuse with the Woode system:
I like the pockets and the Woode system but the legs are pathetic. I can't figure out why bag companies can't make the legs work right. Sometimes they retract correctly, then out of the blue I get stabbed in the ankle picking it up. Or I'm walking down the fairway and the legs are halfway extended. And you can't adjust the legs by moving the support on the back. I'm getting rid of this.
Ping Mite E Lite
This would be the perfect "minimal" bag if the straps didn't get all tangled. It's super light. I don't mind the lack of dividers, I'm used to Hoofers. I use this if it's really hot or I need to carry more clothes.
Titleist XS-something
I just got this, it's a 3 or 4 year old model that a store still had new in stock. It's a Belding, before Sun Mountain started making Titleist. Best and easiest to use straps that I've seen, the current models have the same style straps. Plenty of pockets, legs work correctly, not too heavy. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Titleists.
I've been looking for an old Hoofer, I kinda miss the ones I had.

I'm looking for a bag myself. However, I find it funny that everyone is worried about pockets, holders etc in every bag review and then at the end of the review they say..."oh yah, I couldn't get my clubs all the way down or the legs fell so badly they tripped me when I walked." I think first and foremost, a bag should hold your clubs with no tangling and the legs should stay up.
I have not found this bag yet...and please don't say Ping Hoofer, because they are one of the worst about clumping. I would love this bag, if it would actually hold clubs without ruining my grips.

I have a Callaway 3.8 Ultra Light Double Strap Stand Bag, I believe it's really made by Izzo. This bag is very light (3.8 lbs), very comfortable to carry 18 holes, fits all my clubs, and has very sturdy legs. It can also be found for rather cheap right now.
The drawbacks are that is has only a 8" opening where a 9" might have been a bit nicer, but that's my only complaint.

Try checking out the Nike Pro Combo Tour bag--it's got 14 individual slots and I haven't had a problem getting my clubs stuck at all.

I've been wanting to try Izzo's "spirit horizon":
http://www.izzo.com/bags_detail.asp?bagMenuOrder=3 . However, no stores around me have them.
Does anyone have any pictures of sun mountain's "mini" loaded w/ 14 clubs?
jmc
Jan 19 2007, 05:36 PM
I'm not sure either of those bags are meant for 14 clubs. Even on the Izzo website for the Spirit Horizon it says, "For 7-10 clubs." I know the Sun Mountain Mini says it can hold 14 clubs... I bet that's a mighty tight fit though.
I'm not saying any bag is perfect, I'm just saying I don't spend as much time grabbing a stick out of the bag with the Woode system, whereas I did with the some Ping bags and the "six divider" systems (read as "Sun Moutain, Titleits, some Callaway bags).

They were 2 hours old when that picture was taken. After 5 rounds they didn't look anywhere near as shiny as that.

I was looking for a bag to replace my Hoofer 2 and had it down between the XTT Xtra Light and Titleist X76. I ended up gettnig the X76 for Chirstmas. It is light at 4 lbs (seems lighter than the old hoofer), the top is good, has enough storage space for me to put more stiff than I need in it. Nice to finally have a water bottle holder. Holds clubs well and haven't had the tangling like I had with the Ping.
The only downside so far is that I took it on a golf trip where we used caddies. The caddies really disliked carrying 2 bags with these straps and ended up swapping one bag for either a single strap titleist or another bag (Titleist apparently sells a single strap for this bag). However, since I don't use a caddy very often

I don't rate this as a huge negative.

AUDuffer or anyone else with a Nike Pro Combo Tour bag...I was thinking of purchasing but at 5.5 lbs I'm afraid it might be too heavy when opting to walk. Do you use it primarily as a carry or cart bag? Would you recommend it as a carry bag? Thanks
