I recently purchased the new Sky Caddie SG4 GPS unit. I owned an SG2 for the past year, and really liked it. The problem that I am having is this: playing on my home course, it reports distances that are sometimes as much as 17 yards different than course markings... This is a 4 star pro mapped course. As I stated i was using the SG2 for a year and at the same course I never saw more than a 2-3 yard differnece between the GPS and a course marker. I am wondering if there is something wrong with the new unit. At any rate, I am unable to trust it. I wrote to the customer service dept., over a week ago and got no reply.
Just wondering if anyone here has experienced similiar problems?

mine is right on.
make sure you have the default set to middle of the green. this new model can be set to front, middle, and back as default.
you may have accidently set it to be at the back or front by mistake.

Thanks for the quick reply. I checked my unit and it is set for the Middle of the green, so that is not the problem.
I think before I take it out the next time, I am going to reset it and reload the course. Maybe that will help...

The last 2 times I went out with my skycaddie I did notice that the yardages were off. I'm not sure what happened I have had me SG2 for almost 2 years without a problem. I plan on sending SkyGolf a email to see if they had any idea.

Ive used my SG-4 two or three times so far and the yardages seem to be +/- 1-2 yards. Of course this has been at the same course so we'll see what happens when I play a new one (probably a week or so).
In regards to the customer service, so far I am not impressed with them. I couldn't figure out why the course I had selected was not downloading. It took me a couple of days to figure out that since my home course has two sets of greens for one hole, they have two complete course down loads. What that means is you can only select 9 courses since one course will count as two to give you a total of 10. I sent them an email almost a month ago and have not heard anything back from them.

I have heard that their customer service is very very very poor, it's really the only thing holding me back at the moment, that and the fact that allot of the courses in SK are not Mapped yet.

For what its worth, I just played Poppy Hills which has the GPS systems installed in their carts and my SG4 was dead on their distances. It was actually very helpful since they are not allowing carts on the fairways due to the upcoming AT&T.

I just bought the SG4 and can't get it to DirectConnect. Anybody else have a problem? I've given it permission to connect in the AntiVirus, the AntiSpam, the Antithis, and the AntiThat. It still won't connect. When the SkyCaddie Desktop software cranks up it sees the unit and when I ask the software to find the unit it does so without a problem. I just can't get it to connect to the website so I can't get any courses.
In addition, I set up an account but it doesn't seem to see my login. It still shows Login after I login. That seems odd. When I tried an incorrect password it said that my input was wrong so the website is seeing my input. Damn, it's a little befuddling.
Any suggestions? Anything that worked for you folks?

What error message are you getting when you run the software and attempt to add new hardware?
I had a problem with one of my computers saying that it could not find the USB modem as that is apparently how the software communicates. Nothing fixed it until I updated Windows with the latest security and other "major" updates and all of a sudden it worked.
PS- Skycaddie customer service was useless and only said that I needed to update the moden driver and they could not help me. That was not the problem - the driver and all registry keys were there and intact.

I had a problem the first time or two. I had to reload the software from the CD they supplied and it seemed to work. Make sure along with all of the anti stuff you also have your pop up blocker disabled.
Also, I found this on the Sky Caddie web site. Good luck.
If you are unable to DirectConnect, here are a few things to look for:
Have you installed any software recently? Sometimes there may be a conflict because new software can overwrite files or settings on your system.
Have you installed or changed settings in any firewall or antivirus software? Both of these types of software programs may block communication to our website. They will need to be configured for our site.
Do you have anything that might be trying to use the port that your SkyCaddie is plugged into (i.e. Palm HotSync, power management, etc)? These will need to be turned off or removed in order to return the port back to the SkyCaddie.
Is your internet connection working?
Are you using your SkyCaddie Desktop?
Have you installed Windows XP Service Pack 2? For more information on this,

Thanks for the help. I've installed and reinstalled a couple of times using both software from the website as well as on the disk. I've restarted each time. No luck.
My computer can find the SkyCaddie. The SkyCaddie modem shows on my computer under Device Manager. The SkyCaddie is hooked up. This is the first time I'm trying to use the unit so I haven't installed other software. I've listed exceptions in all the protection software including the Adblocker software.
I have finally been able to Login which is an improvement over yesterday.
Hmm, beats me. I'll give them a call but it doesn't sound like they are much help. I'll let you know. Too bad they don't have software for Apple. I might try is on my wife's machine under XP. She's got an old Apple though so it's pretty slow in Virtual whatever.

Well, that call to tech support wasn't very helpful. He basically went over everything I had already done and had no other ideas.
So, I uninstalled all my antivirus, anti spam, etc software. Now when I have the Sky Caddie software look for firewalls there are none found. Still won't DirectConnect. When I use Firefox I can log into my account at Sky Caddie but can't DirectConnect. I can't even login if I use IE.
Tried uninstalling and installing a couple more times. Downloaded off their website each time. No luck. SkyCaddie modem shows under the Device Manager.
Oh, and BTW, the Shy Caddie software is NOT Vista compatible if anyone is thinking of upgrading their OS. Don't know when or if that is going to change.
I guess it's a good thing I bought this at Roger Dunn's so I can return it. My laser range finder has no issues with DirectConnect.
I'm bummed.

Try one last thing.
Go to the Microsoft website and check to see if your XP operating system is totaly up to date. If there are any updates, download and install and then try to reinstall the Skycaddie software.
There is clearly a glitch somewhere in your system and their software is not very forgiving.

Alright! I got it to work. I had to go into Control Panel, Internet Options, Privacy, Sites, and add Skygolfgps.com as an exception. Cranked right up.
BTW, I got this from SkyCaddie this morning:
"Thank you for your reply. Please send a phone number and he best time to reach you so that we can set up a callback with one of our Level III technicians. It is possible that your issue can be resolved by network streaming with involves one of our technicians gaining control of your mouse and keyboard and viewing your computer via our web streaming tool.
Please let us know if you would be interested in a callback.
Regards,
SkyGolfGPS"
I think that was good support from them. I don't know if they would have found the problem but the offer was great. Maybe the support from this company is good after all.
Thanks to all for offering to help.
Aloha.

Tried all the suggestions and still cannot get the software to "read,""find" or "connect" to the handheld. I'm at my wits end with the new software from Skycaddie.
