I just can't get enough of this shot. I must've watched it 150 times since I saw it live.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-740084892738160457It's a truly amazing shot with all the surrounding circumstances. The ball had to be hit with great accuracy due to the fact it lied flush against the intermediate rough. That made the shot difficult. Then it was hard enough to have it land perfectly to let gravity take over. Of course the lingering on the lip there added considerable amount of drama to the shot. He went on to win that Masters in a playoff against DiMarco.

If he'd done that shot during the first round then nobody would of bat an eyelid. However, he didn't do it in the first round and that's why many people had a heart attack when they watched it, lol!
Ernie Els made a similar style shot many years ago possibly at a U.S Open. Just shows how circumstance can affect how great a shot is/was.

Being a Canadian I will always love 18th at Glen Abbey 6 iron out of the fairway bunker from 218 out over water. to 18 feet.

He's hit a lot of great ones but that shot was incredible.
I remember him hitting a shot from a horrible lie off the 6th fairway at Pebble in the 2000 Open. The announcers were wondering if he could move it 100 yards and he wound up scooting on to the front of the green. 3rd round?

It was an early round shot, but my first place vote would go to the hugely sliced 3 wood from the rough that hit the green in two on a par 5 when they had the US Open at Olympia Fields. Second, the long iron from the bunker on 18, I think it was the 3rd round morning make-up holes, at the PGA Rich Beem won.

There was a shot at a major several years ago. It was a saturday morning(he had to finish his second round), I think it was the us open. He was paired with Ernie, he snaps driver into a bunker left, has to stand outside the bunker with ball 2 ft below him in the bunker, with trees 30' tall 30' in front of him, into the wind,he hits a 3 iron over the trees and onto the green. From what I remember, he and Ernie both agree that is the greatest shot he ever hit. Does anyone remember this?

That's the one I was referring to in my post, that's the second greatest shot I've seen him hit. He made the putt for birdie too.

Yep. He said it was his greatest shot, so I would have to say so as well. He had to stand just inside the lip, as a result he was closer to the ball than normal. Ball well below his feet, trees, and wind hawking left to right. He hooked it into the wind to 15 ft, and then holes the putt. He also hit that great shot at Torrey Pines where he had to hit a long iron under a tree, then over the next. Pulled it off, and then made the putt. As great as those two shots were what seperates him is that he makes the putt.

I was going to say that too. That overhead camera captured it all. I would have to say
This makes me think that many of us could come up with many different shots that Tiger has made over his short career and they all could be a "Best Ever" shot

You're right. I forgot about the one at the Masters. Final round....16th hole...and he holes out an impossibly delicate chip. That was impressive even for TW!

I thought the 16th at Augusta was a tad lucky. The funniest thing was the replay of that shot and the announcers pointed out two heavy set guys just going nuts in the background. I remember being at a friends house and his friends were pulling for Dimarco and we were pulling for Tiger. That shot silenced the haters for the rest of the round and refueled our already beer-fueled mouths.
My personal favorite was at the Canadian as well, very tough shot out of the bunker, over water, to a tucked flag. (off a turtle back, duck's a**, pond rock, nothing but cup

I agree with Tiger. He said his best shot was the oe out of the bunker when it was two feet below him. I'm pretty sure that it was at Hazletine. Could be wrong though.

Does anyone have the clip of the shot out of the bunker at Hazeltine? I have looked for at least a year to show a friend(who never saw it) and cant find it anywhere. Somehow it did not make the 'top 10' list on TGC.

Circumstances did make the Masters shot incredible, but I suspect TW could do it again with a bucket of balls any day out there.
To me, the 3i out of the fairway bunker at Hazeltine was his best shot ever simply because I have never seen a shot anything like that before. And who else can pull off that shot? 3I? Out of a bunker with an awkward stance and the ball below your feet? That's crazy. Today I had a level lie in a fw bunker and the lip was not that high, I still slammed the ball into it when I stupidly tried a 5I.
The 4I for eagle at The Open this past year was a laser.
The shots I used to like to watch that I never see him hit anymore is the low screamer chip from just off the green that looks like it's going to fly past the hole and then it hits the green with a hard spin and stops on a dime. It starts out looking like he bladed it, but finishes with perfection. I have asked many pros to show me that shot, none of them can do it.

I stood on that very spot when I got to play there this past summer. You can hardly see the green from where he was standing. I tried to hit the shot....um, no

Having stood there and trying to hit it makes it that much more amazing to me personally.
The member I was playing with said that when he hit it, the people in the stands along the left side of the hole started ducking because they were certain it was going to hit them.

amazing.
I agree. I don't know anyone else who would even consider the line he took for that shot with the tourney on the line. Totally demoralized Langer when he saw what Tiger pulled off. Completely amazing.

It was....big high draw into a left to right wind to a back left pin. out of a fairway bunker with the ball well below his feet with a 3 iron I think....That's the winner IMO....

This is the shot I was thinking of when I started reading this thread. I think it was at Hazeltine during the PGA when Beemer won. Does anyone know for sure? I also liked his 40 yard bunker shot at the US open this year. I think he used a nine iron.

It was indeed Grant Waite, and the event was pure Hollywood. I took my young son and a couple of his pals that Sunday and as the 2-some hit off 18 we weren't sure they'd be able to finish as thunder was audible in the distance and a light rain was beginning to fall. Tiger had to hit out of damp sand and in failing evening light. We were about 200 yds from the green, and when Tiger hit "the shot" it reminded me of The Natural (the baseball movie with Robert Redford) and people held their lighters up like a rock concert. It was too dark for us to see the landing, but the roar was incredible and flashbulbs lit up the entire 18th green area. Really a memorable moment for us all. Tiger's best shot ever? I'd say just one of many, and more to come.

I will have to go with the Canadian Open as well, I remember that the announcers were figuring he was laying up, so when he hit it so hard it looked like it was going into the water in front. If it had gone long the pitch downhill toward the lake would have been that much tougher on the short side. They have imortalized the shot with a plaque at that bunker at Glen Abbey so everyone finishing the course tries the shot.

The Masters shot is top's on my list... However a close second would be the 250 yd. three wood cut - around a tree - that had to of bent 40 yds. I think it was at the U.S. Open a couple of years ago? Regardless, I remember the sheer physical strength to hit a ball that hard from the rough and turn it just perfect.
The best thing is none of us are wrong... There are so many great shots!
Hole in one at the Stadium course. The list goes on and on.

I believe it was the 2000 US Open. Bad lie in rough, launched it up and got it on the green. Also there was another shot where he was in a fairway bunker, downhill lie, feet out of bunker, big tree in front of him, left to right wind, and he hit it to like 15 feet and made the putt for birdie. Awesome.

I am surprised people dont mention the hole in one at Phoenix. I was at the tee box touching the ropes, merely feet away from Fluff, when Tiger made the hole in one. Imagine me, new to Arizona, as a 19 year old, seeing that shot. The announcers said it was the loudest a golf crowd had ever gotten on the decibel scale. Truly awesome

whoever said if tiger did that in the first round it wouldnt of been noticed its wrong but i can see why you say that and that is the whole reason that green is steep i got a pik of it from getty to see it and its not easy and under them circumstances anyone say ( A** shaking)
but i couldnt decide putt at the open this year wasnt the shot but the moment i was there wow can you say humbling

Then there was that shot where he even amazed himself. Don't remember where it was last year. They replayed him talking about it to

I have to stick with the chip in at Augusta. If he hits that chip to ten feet Dimarco probably would have made his put and it would have been a possible to shot swing. Instead Tiger picks up a shot and builds a two shot lead with two to play. If he doesn't chip that in Dimarco probably would have broken through for his first major. Besides, it gives me chills every time I watch that shot tracking down the hill towards the hole.

OK, my 2 cents. The 6 iron at Glen Abbey to win is the best. BUT... honorable mention:
It was an opening round, David Feherty commentating. 235-240 out on a par 5, ball is 12-15" above tigers feet (camera showed the angle). David says "he has the 2 iron out, must be hitting a low stinger around those trees to lay up". Tiger hits the ball OVER THE TREES with a 10 yard FADE to about 8 feet. David says " that's the greatest shot I have ever witnessed, i'm speechless".
Anyone remember what tournament that was?? It was several years ago.
