Last week, I got out in 35-45 degree weather. When I arrived at the public course, there were more then a few guys wearing "hoodies" to keep warm.
On the one hand, Hoodies don't seem like appropriate golf attire?
On the other, they seemed ideal for protecting the ears and neck from cold.

Personally I'm not a cold weather fan so if it got to the point I felt I needed to wear one I probably wouldn't be out there, but it wouldn't bother me if someone wanted to.

Hoodies are very amateurish. Of course they are okay if it's a Hollister hoodie and you are accessoring it with a Mock under, metal spikes, and some bling John Hardy!

If its cold out and you have a hoodie, wear it. I am not into this look the part stuff. You should never judge a player by what they are wearing. If you have your collared shirt and decent trousers your set in my opinion. Tell you the truth, I would rather see guys wearing hoodies than pastel colored, nut hugger pants like a few guys on tour wear.

I wouldn't wear a hoody at the golf course. I would where a mock and a beanie instead. would I care if a guy had a hoody on, No.

If you want to wear a hoodie go play sandlot football. If you want to play golf invest in some quality outerwear. It is cold and windy here today but I am very comfortable in my Fairway & Greene Polo with a Zero Restriction Microsuede Long Sleeve Pullover.

Dude, you are in freaking Corsicana Texas. :-)
What do you know about playing golf in cold weather? I don't know you, but I know how you behave. When it gets cold in Texas (it happens), you stay inside, watch the boys on the boob tube, and have a cold one. Why? Because it will be warm enough to play in a few days b/c it is Texas. All Texans behave the same way - I know!!!
BTW - I have a funny Corsicana story. I was interviewing with the DA to be an ADA and I noticed a picture of a Public Hanging one the wall behind his head. WTF?
Merry Christmas,
A Native Texan stranded in the Northeast. At least I get to go home to Dallas for the Holidays. If it gets cold, I am going to cry.

Heck I have little interest in watching anybody else play golf, that's why I brave the cold and go at it.

I figure if you're out playing in 35* weather wear whatever you like. Fashion concern is inversely proportional to temperature. Hell, cut offs and a tank top are ok to play in if the temperature drops below 40*. I've spent a lot of years in Wisconsin playing in sub 45* weather and it's been my experience that the fashion police have gone into hibernation long before it gets that nippy.

Hoodies are great for very cold weather golfing. I do it in the winter here in Utah with thermal top underneath. Sweatshirts aren't too bulky and are relatively warm compared to other options that provide similar flexibility. Does it matter what you are wearing when you're the only one on the course? If a course cares if I wear a hoodie while I am golfing they should have a rule against it; then I can follow it. Also, why spen money on "appropriate" winter attire when I can use the money for green fees and lessons. Playing is much more important to me than being a poser.

I don't see why not. The golf course allowed them to play right?
Look, it's a muni course and it's winter. Hoodies are perfectly fine. It's a different story if it is a private golf club.

This game is about a number that you write on a card, that's it. To me, in golf, your game is who you are. Golf gets a bad name from people who think that golfers have to wear Lacoste or J. Lindeberg. Wear what is going to allow you to score the best. Let's grow the game, not limit it to people who can afford Patagonia and Purple Label cashmere sweaters. (Yeah, I can name drop too, and it doesn't mean anything about my game). I'll be working on my swing while you look in the mirror and shop.

Exactly!! I played today and it was quite hot. I had a sleeveless hoodie and a pair of denim shorts on, it even warmer so I just wore a singlet. I still 68. Whats the big deal about what you wear. Hell 80% of golfers in my area wear jeans or non dress pants when they play, no one cares

Not just no, but HELL NO!
I've got a story: We were playing a couple of months ago, and it wasn't even cold, but we end up playing through this group of guys and one of them has a hoodie on with black sweat pants and white knee socks pulled up over the bottom of his black sweat pants and he had black baseball cleats on! Talk about looking ridiculous!

I thinks it's O.K at the local Muni but,
At any decent to higher end course, Heck No!!! It brings down the whole look and feel of a nice course when you see guys not respecting the game or course buy not dressing properly. There are minimum expectations and hoodies fall below that. I also think jeans are borderline but see quite a few.

I remember shelling out about $100 for a round at Stonetree in CA. I was paired with a couple of guys dressed top to bottom in Ralph Lauren. These well dressed fools decide its cool to yell FXXX as loud as they could when they missed a putt or cranked one OB. Or how about the screaching cart tires after a few beers. I have had far more enjoyable rounds with the random guy at the ole muni and even high end course, some wearing jeans, hell one kid I played with had on basketball shimmer shorts and a tee shirt, nonetheless they were respectful and made for good playing partners. Just because someone wears nice clothing doesn't necessarily mean they respect the game.

Obviously acting improperly isn't respecting the game, course, or playing partners either. I never said it was. But also dressing in a t-shirt or hoody isn't respecting it either depending on the course. Of course if some kids are playing the local muni they can wear basically what they want. An adult playing at a decent course should dress properly and act properly.

If you don't think it is ever ok to wear a hoodie while you're playing golf then don't play anywhere that allows them. The rest of us will appreciate a few less people on the muni. Let the courses decide what is acceptable on their property.
Side note: I've also found that popping the collar on my pink polo shirt nd wearing tight pastel colored pants with a studded belt hasn't helped my swing
