Hey GolfWRX,

Ive always been really interested in golf club but had a few ideas of my own. Was wondering if their is an easy program that would allow you to put on the computer and make it a three demensional figure. Thanks I would really appreciate an answer.

YES!!! Go to google.com and type in sketchup. They offer this incredibly easy to use solid modeling program for free. I've done cad for years and years in research and development for several companies and always used AutoCAD - which will typically take classes and some practice to get going to a professional level. Sketchup can be learned in about a week and is fairly powerful, especially for a free program. Hope that helps and if you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

we've recently started using sketch up 5 for some quick 3D models at work. its great for massing and conceptual ideas. not as easy as autocad for real detail work. its an easy program to use. we've done a couple conceptual models for future clubhouses we are working on.

I thought that Cinema 4D was quite easy to use (but quite expensive (but cheap if compared to some other CAD programs wink.gif )

I find it easier than 3d studio max.

Have not used sketchup..I will try that one!

Hmm.. since Maya Unlimited might be a little "pricy" I would try Blender (it's free). It has a NURBS and a subdivision surfaces modeler built in - both better ways for modeling golf clubs compared to a solid modeler i.m.h.o.

here is a model of a scheme done in my office of the new university of texas golf club clubhouse in austin, texas. i personally didn't do it, but have done other models, but this one is a more interesting building.

I tried Sketchup today!

That program is extremly easy to use!!

Of course, it is lacking many features, but for basic sketches of putters it is enough.

That picture shown is what I did directly after the 3step tutorial.
It took me about a minute to do...it usually takes so much longer to get even simple things like this done if you are new to a CAD program!

PS: What putter did I try to make??

a couple guys from my old development team went to work for Sketchup before they got acquired by Google. Cool stuff. More user-friendly than the apps our software goes in.
