Ok folks, here is the thing. I realized today that there is golf course named after a very important golf figure. No it is not Tiger, Jack, or someone who even won professional golf event (as far as I can tell). His name is Mr Donald Trump. And the name of the course is Trump International.

Now, nothing against Mr Trump, but why would he call the place after himself? Well heck, he is synonymous w/ putting a stamp with his name to everything he owns. The truth of the matter is that I think that it would sound better if he had not attached his name to it. While the place must be magnificent, and he is passionate about this game we all love, I think that the course would market better if he would change it so say, a Sam Snead International, or Gary Player International....you know where I am going.

I think he is successful in pretty much all he does. But IMO I think the name makes it sound just like another of his many properties. I don't mean to talk negative in any way, but when you say names like St. Andrews, Augusta National, etc it brings back this passion for the game. What I'm trying to say is that it symbolizes something special.

I did not mean to offend anyone, but I just wanted to share this with you guys, and maybe at least you could let me understand about this a little bit better. thanks!

Trump actually has 6 course named after himself...
3 Trump Nationals
3 Trump Internationals

And "Trump" is a brand name.

Trump is a marketing genius. His name has become known as big money and no expense spared. So when you hear a golf course of the name you know you will have a first class experience and that no expense has been spared. I saw one time that somebody tried to talk him out of building that waterfall on the 17th par-3 that the ADT is being played on this week because it was going to cost so much and he basically said he didn't care how much it cost, build it.
As far as the Big Break deal on the Golf Channel, how many people will now go play that course because they have seen and heard about it on that series. He lured the LPGA and the ADT into the Florida course so how many people will now want to go play it and see if they can play that tee shot on 18 or the tee shot on 17 like the ladies did.
The golf fans know who Sam Snead and Gary Player are but what about the typical citizen. My mom for example, would have no clue who Sam Snead or Gary Player are, but you say Trump and instantly she says that place must be nice and I bet it is expensive to play.
So to sum up, Trump=genius! Great marketer!

Have you ever been to Trump Plaza in Atlantic City? It is a dump.

If these golf courses do not make money, it will be interesting to see what happens to them. For now, I am really only interested to see the course in Bedminster, which I hear is good. Palm Beach next to a jail and Westchester with a waterfall does not do much for me.

I would also play the California course for the views, but would not expect too much from the course.

Have you been recently? According to their website they have renovated the entire place. New rooms, new bar, new amenities.
I have only been to Trump Towers in NYC and that was nice.

To be honest, Trump National: Bedminster is one of the finest courses in the country. Period.

I don't know what his courses cost to play but I would bet they are very pricey. Wealthy people probably are more interested in first class service which the Trump name constitutes and I'm sure that playing a Trump course means something different to them as it does to me.

I'd rather play Pebble, Whisting Strights, Sawgrass, Etc.

With the exception of his LA course and the new one on Canouan Island, they're private

Trump International in West Palm is private. Memberships start around $250,000 and are limited to under 300 members. I played as a guest a few years a go and never saw anyone else on the course. It was a weekday afternoon. Had a blast. It's also a great venue for the LPGA's ADT Championship in November.

I am looking forward to playing Trump Int. in West Palm soon. I hear they are getting a new Asst. Pro and I know him pretty well. Especially since I put him through college.
