You are probably wodering what this thread is about!
I have been thinking about my game and why i'm not scoring as well as I know I should.
Now, I'm beenthinking about my home course where my best score is 5 under. I'm a scratch player, and i've birdied all the holes on my course as i'm sure you all have, or at least most.
If I can birdie all the holes on different occations, why don't I do it more often?
phycological?
course management?
unlucky?
WHAT?

It's just the golf gods having fun with you. LOL You sound like me. I think it boils down to course management and also the fact that there will always be something to go wrong. Can be anything from a bad lie to a bad bounce. Those golf gods can be cruel at times. LOL

It's got a lot to do with the Golf Gods as choeppner said. But how hot can you get with you putter?? Can you birdie 3,4,5, or even 6 holes in a row? Can you stay in the present and play each hole and each shot as if the previous/next hole/shot didn't matter?
As for birdieing every hole, can you legitimately hit EVERY fairway leaving the perfect angle to ANY pin on EVERY green?
Can you hit EVERY green and leave it inside 10ft (percentage of making a putt over 10ft drops dramatically... see Dave Pelz)??
If you can pull off all this stuff, MAYBE you can shoot 54. But it does give you something to work for.
Good luck, good shooting

pin placements
pin placements change. there are courses i frequently play, and certain parts of the green and i do not get along and some placements i get along with really well. some holes have pins that are not ment to be one putted.

I'm not expecting to shoot 18 under, but feel that looking at the stats on tour, these guys have 8 birdies a round. I feel I should at least be having minimum 4-5 birdies a round, instead I'm only getting 2-3 a round.
It's called VISION 54. Thinking that you can birdie every hole on your course in a given day if you have done it over a lifetime. Annika had signed up to it when she shot her 59 on the LPGA. I believe in it, what is stopping you? Nothing but your mind stops you. You have 3 shots to make birdie. You can't do it with the first shot, you can pretty much do it with the 2nd, but birdies are always made with the 3rd shot on par 4's. Haven't you ever butchered 3 shots and holed a monster putt to save par? Same thing except with making birds. Nothing is in your way but you

It's simple chance isn't it? If you have a 15% probability of making birdie on any one hole, you'll make one on every hole at some point, but would only average 2-3 per round. Tiger's birdie average is just under 4.5 this year. Most of the other players are much lower. 2-3 is a pretty good number. 4.5 is around 25% of holes played, which is why he makes more birdies than your 15%. As to why is his percentage higher, it's because he's rather good at this game.

The name of the book is 'Every Shot Must Have A Purpose'.
One of the best reads on playing at a very high performance level.
