I went to the golf store today to hit some different iron shafts and there happened to be a clubhead speed scanner in the cage so for fun I grabbed a demo driver to see what my SS is clocking in at and it was faster than I had expected. Last time I checked it was on average about 106 and maxed one out at 113. Today I had no problem getting in the low 120's and had to really slow down to stay at 106. Today 113 was closer to my average. I consider myself an aspiring novice and have been playing for 10 months. I was very surprised but maybe it's because I haven't been playing all that long and I'm getting more flexible and stronger.

The funny thing was that I was going in to try out some softer shafts than my DG S300s. I'm going to keep those but now I'm thinking I should be looking at some stiffer driver shafts.

swing speed scanners can give different results. I tend to trust the launch monitor numbers more.

I would tend to agree that the scanner might have been a little off. Not that a big improvement is not possible, it's just that in a relatively short time period it is very hard. It's possible in that you may have improved your technique enough since the last time you checked that you are now maxing out your potential. But scanners are just tough to believe because you can get funky numbers if you set it up wrong.

I would get a third opinion just to double check, especially if you're going to make equipment changes based on it. BTW if you are in the 106 ss range than you shouldn't need to go softer than s300.
