Looking for a little help! I'm in the UK and looking to buy a shaft from the US. I've never shipped anything from the states before, does anyone know if i would get charged duty/taxes when it arrives?? if so, roughly how much??
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Apologies if this is in the wrong forum!

It depends on the value and how the shipper marks it...if he marks it as a gift then over 36 pounds you will get charged 2.7% duty and 17.5% VAT. If he marks it as "commercial" and puts the value as over 18 pounds it will be 2.7% duty and 17.5% VAT. You need the person to be sympathetic to the outrageous taxes we have to pay on the mother ship and have him mark it as a 20 buck gift. And you will also probably get the privilege of paying a broker fee to the post office, ups, fedex, dhl or whomsoever the carrier is...
What I always do is to ask them to ship it as a gift but make sure that it is tracked. Nothing goes missing. Small firms will often do this for you, large firms will not.

In my experience you are looking at approx £40 per shaft, I've had some from Japan and the US. Get it marked as gift and hope it slips through the net.
What are you after anyway? PM me if you like.
