I see a lot of people with staff bags and I started to wonder do all of you guys always ride in a cart or do you lug these heavy bags around the course with you?

Staff bags are for carts (pull, push, riding) and caddies. You would have to be in amazing shape to carry a staff bag and not have it effect your game.

Just keep in mind, not everyone uses their staff bag and more importantly, not everyone carries their bag nor do they ride in a cart.

I use a TM 2006 US Open staff bag, and I ride a cart all the time. The only time I carry the bag is from the house to the car.... they have golfing assistants at the club to pick up the bag from your car and load it to your cart and vice versa after the round.

You'd have to be an amazing shape to carry one of those for 18 holes and play well.

Kelly Murray from the Big Break VI carries his BBIV bag....he plays and lives on my course. I've seen him carry it more than once.
I own 2 staff bags and don't even lift either of them...LOL.

I have a Nike Staff bag (not the Tour issued one but a consumer version that seems to be a few pounds lighter because its not reinforced) and carry is about 1/2 the time. Initially it wore me out by the 13 or 14th hole but now its not a problem. In fact a few months ago I played 54 holes in one day and carried it the entire time. Not sure what the total weight is but its got the following in it....
Clubs
10 balls
tees
divot tool
ball marks
sun screan
rain suit
umbrella
four towels
extra shirt
two water bottles
two pairs of socks
athletic tape
The only problem I have now is that the sides have caved in from airport damage. I recently purchased the new TOUR model Nike Staff bag and hope it holds up better.

I do have a TaylorMade R7TP Special Edition staff bag and pulled it until recently my trolley had a wheel misfunction and I was without a trolley. Got myself one of those IZZO straps and decided to carry for the remainder of the season. Since then I shot 3 rounds in the 70s and my handicap dropped from 9.2 to 5.8.
Carrying your tour bag is definitely the way to go!

Back when I was maybe 19 I carried one on a course where it was walking only, planned on getting a pullcart but they ran out, so I lugged this old school green and white all vinyl, what seemed like 50 lb. staff bag on the course. It was the first and last time.

I've carried my Titleist Tour staff bag a number of rounds this summer as my stand bag got a little busted. It's not such a big deal because I've got one of those Izzo slings like you see a lot of the caddies on tour with. It makes a
BIG difference.
The other reason I'll carry this bag from time to time is so I don't feel guilty about not getting to the gym. It's my way of killing two birds with one stone! It's a great workout by the way and carrying this bag has not really made a difference in my scores either way.
Some may think I'm crazy

, but it works for me!

I carried my Callaway Big Bertha staff/cart bag and I shot an 89 from the backs on a course of 7,000 yards. It made my arm a little sore and my feet hurt a little bit(course is really hilly, with trees) but I didn't really make a differance.

I did the same thing EXCEPT I'm not strong enough to carry a staff bag. My Great Divider Journey is only 7.25lb, but my biceps are getting bigger and my backs are getting thicker, that's for sure.

I use my staff bag all the time, but I have a Bag Boy Cart I strap it onto and wheel it around. For those weird days when I just want to carry the bag for some reason I'd use a Hoofer Extreme.

Stand bags and pencil bags are for carrying. The Mizuno scratch sac is very good.
Staff bags are for carts trolleys and buggys why kill yourself ????
I would die with laughter if I saw anyone carrying a staff bag unless he was a caddy.
Use your energy for other things like hitting the fairway.

My caddy doesn't even like to carry my staff bag. I let him carry the stand bag if we are playing really hilly courses. The only time I have carried it was when my cart died while practicing at my home course. I carried it 4 holes and back to the clubhouse. I am in good shape and that was enough for me!

IMHO Staff bags are for people who want to be noticed. Not all, but many I believe. Other than that, I see them as impractical.

You will never seem me carry a staff bag, I don't see the point unless you want a work out because why tire yourself out and have it affect your game. I'll stick with my stand bags. If I ever do get a staff bag it will be for my room or if I go in a cart.
