saw the first episode yesturday/ these people have game. haha, the best part is either the guy that swings with a left hand low grip (WOW!), the guythat has the crazy un-orthodox swing- teacher was moe norman- or wait.. i think im likin Bri.

--nice job Gavin with a score of 4 in the elimination. clutch effort.

It looks like I am going to get hooked into this season....the first episode was entertaining.

It is nice to see that they now have something for the Champions tour. As you mentioned, there are some un-orthodox swings in the older guys, but if you watch the champions tour, not many guys there have an orthodox swing. I actually like the champions tour for that very reason. It proves that there is more than 1 way to swing a club.

WAY TO GO IN THE FIRST EPISODE GAVIN. COOL TO HAVE ANOTHER WRXER ON THE BB.

My girlfriend and I were watching the show last night, she's really into the Big Breaks, and when Bri was playing poorly and was on the brink of being eliminated, my gf was saying "O no, I hope she doens't get elimiated, I like her, she's seems really nice," etc. And I agreed "O i know, I bet she's really nice and good, it would suck if she got elminated" etc.

Unfortunately, later she picked up on the fact that I got nervous when Bri was almost knocked out just because I think she's hot. Maybe I should have been a bit more subtle, but hey, can you blame me :P

If I recall correctly, one time when Bri was talking to the camera, the subtitle stated that she was formerlly a Victoria's Secret fitting specialist... Just food for thought.

If you are lucky, your girlfriend will just get annoyed with you now and get it over with.

If you aren't so lucky, she will save it for another occassion when you are off your guard. Say, like when you are watching football. And then she'll make some comment like: "I saw a commercial with that Eli Manning. I didn't realize how big and in-shape he is." And then your brain makes that sound like when Scooby Doo is confused and says "Huh?" and your eyes are like a deer caught in headlights.

Isn't that just fancy talk for "sales person"? Sorta like "Sanitation Engineer" for garbageman? Although it does make it sound like the designed the merchandise based on her, ummmm, "carry bags."

Thanks for the well wishes. It is really appreciated. As you are aware I cannot say much but I can give you guys some insight into each show AFTER it aires.

Let's take the shot through the hole in the board. We were told that if you went through the hole your distance to the hole would be halved. If you went over you had to live with what you got. Now I am hard of hearing so I am not sure if that was mentioned on the show, (I did not hear it) but it does provide why the decision was made by most to chip it thru.

I will be glad to do that, as long as I am not put in a position where I would have to violate my non disclosure agreement. I would field questions about the challenges and the contestants and staff.

Donald Trump is just one helluva nice guy, you would not think it, business is business and on a social level he is just totally cool (well I thought so)

The show for me was an experience of a lifetime, and I would not have missed it for anything. The staff were fantastic and you were treated like royalty (something I am not accustomed to) Your every need was catered to.
HipCheck
Gavin this is really great to be able to get this insight from you. No, I did not hear 'your distance would be halved' if you go through the hole. Very interesting...

What did you think seeing Albert hit cross-handed, and THEN win the driving challenge??
gslabbert
I have played on the mini tours with Albert many times and he is just so strong. Check out his forearms. Man I tell you he can hit it a ton. I guess if there was no water there he would have hit it 20 yards further. Kelly can also hit it a mile. He either currently holds or held the Worlds longest Drive as per " The guiness book of records" Something over 600 yards. I heard it was done at an airport (not sure if it was on the runway or not). One morning before the show aired for the day we were all messing around trying to hit the ball with Alberts grip, s*** that is hard, I whiffed the 1st 3 or 4 shots, man it was totally comical, guys and gals alike whiffing it, it was hysterical. I hope we see it on tape somewhere. Then again Albert could not hit the ball with a natural grip either.

The closest to the hole with the Driver was total luck, sure you had to hit a good shot but then it depended on the bounce. Albert's drive finish less than 1 yard from the rough at the end of the fairway. 1 more yard and he would have been OB. Thems the breaks. But Albert is a totaly cool guy as were all the guys but one (and don't ask I wont tell). (Excluding me cheesy.gif)

All sorts of things happen, take my 1 st bunker shot that went off into never never land. I must have stepped up to hit that shot 5 times before the cameras were ready. By the time I hit the shot I was cold and stiff and totally iced. Also you could not see the surface from where you were hitting from and the green had a SEVERE slope back to front and right to left.

BTW: If you take really close look at Annie's 1st bunker shot, it was on the line. (Any part of the ball touching the line is good) The official said it was out and what the official says goes ...

The 2nd chip shot from that nasty uphill sidehill lie with your feet below the ball was as tough a shot as they could find and one thing to remember, the golf course was tricked out. The rough was deeper than any US Open rough. If you stuck your club into it grip first more often than not you will see the grip just totally disappear. It was that long. Also the fairways were narrowed to about 25 yards or so (Except hole #1 which was 40 yards wide).

The thing that I found out about the show while on it, was ... That stuff is WAY harder to do with cameras on you than while you are out on the course in the flow. I thought that some of the people on the previous shows were not the best golfers, but I have gained a whole new respect for them. They can all play. Sometimes the show does not bring it out and the situations dictate.

There were 9 girls and each of them had REAL GAME. How much game do you have to have to get into Minnesota on a golf scholarship, which is what Karyn did.

Just a little insite into her, she got into Minnesota on a golf scholarhip as stated, she carried a 4. something GPA through college, is a ceritified fitness instructor (while at college), was Miss Minnesota and is a concert level pianist. You should hear her play. This is one multi talented girl. Where the hell do you find the time to do all of that.

In case you did not know Kristy McPherson finished 4th on the Futures tour and thus gets a fully exempt card to the LPGA tour next year. So you know that she can play.
Charlie_Foxtrot
Thanks for your insight Gavin. Very cool of you.

You looked so calm and collected on the first episode, especially during the final short-game challenge. It had to be considerably more nerve-wracking for you than it appeared.

If you are allowed to talk about it, I'm curious about things that get edited out of the show - bloopers or whatever other interesting "behind the scenes" stories you might have. (EDIT: Just read your latest post. That's exactly the kind of stuff I was hoping for!)

Again, thanks.

Just like a duck in water, Calm on top but FRENZIED underneath.

I can't talk about bloopers as I did not get to see any of the editing. I can tell you this, there were no retakes on any golf shots. What you see is what happened. I heard rumors that there will be an BBVI inside access but you know rumors ...

Thats what I alwasy think when I hear the armchair pro's bashing the contestants for lack of game. Very well said. It also makes me respect the pro's that much more.

Ahhh, that explains a lot. During that whole sequence, I kept wondering how come everyone was hitting it to the left (hitter's left) of the hole instead of hitting it up to the right of the hole, to the rightmost edge of the chalk circle, and letting it roll down into the circle. Also, I guess the slope was more severe than it looked on TV.

I happened to be playing a Heartlands Senior tour event in Azel Texas when the Golf Channel showed up for auditions. The audition consisted of each person hitting 10 shots, 3 drivers, 3 5 irons, 3 wedges and a flop shot. You had to hit a draw, a fade and a straight ball on command (call your shot) with the Driver and 5 iron, then you had to hit 3 wedges to a flag. The last shot was a flop shot. They rated you on those shots and then you had to do an on camera interview (you can see parts of it on the golf Channel's BBVI website) Geez, looking at it now I wonder what the hell they saw in me as it was BAD !!!
cheesy.gif

They selected 25 guys to go to Orlando for semi final interviews (at that time we had no idea that there were going to be girls involved). When I showed up in Orlando I was was fitted with clubs by ADAMSGOLF (There new stuff is FANTASTIC) especially the new hybrids, and fairway woods which you have not seen yet. (maybe) Anyway, we had to socialize with everyone, (All on camera) then we had dinner and had to play charade and Pictionary for at least 2 hours. The following day we had to play golf in the rain and on camera. From that they selected 9 guys and 9 girls. My 4 ball at Orlando consisted of Sid Corliss, Kristy McPherson and Brigette Dwyer and we all made it on the show (hmmm, makes you think doesn't it). Anyway a few days later I got the call and then I disappeared from this board bad.gif

After speaking with the producers and interviewers it seemed that there were over 5000 people interviewed for this show, so to even make it on is an feat unto itself.

Gavin-
on the chip shot through or flop over wall could you go under? I mean, I know they want to to go over with a flop, or through with a nice chip, but it seems to me with a foot or so above the ground, couldn't you putt it under? Was that ever brought up? Couldn't you "skull" a flop purposely to get it close? That was the first thing that stuck out to me. room under= putt. never brought up on the show. just curious.

Funny you should ask that. When I saw the setup I immediately asked if I could hit a bump and run with a utility under the Wall as the grass was plenty smooth enough and the wall was just about on the green. I was told sorry no can do. The gap below was basically a design flaw and it was never considered as a route to the hole. Apparently no-one had ever asked that. I should not have said anything and hit it under the wall and watched the reaction.

I play golf with Alberts brother out here in Fort Worth about once a week. I keep trying to pump him for information. He said that his brother is going back to Q school again this year for the Champions tour so he thnks that he didn't win.

The first time I met him I thought he was full of crap but after I watched the first episode I was in disbelief. Saw him again the next week and he goes "see, told ya he was in it and he can hit that ball with that funky a** swing can't he?".

When BB were out at a senior tournament recruitng folks here they were interested and said they'd give him a call. When talking to his brother he said, "What are they going to want with me?". His brothers answer? "You're black and you swing left hand low. You're in.". Next day they called him back and offered him a spot.

I'm rooting for him though. I tried to hit like that and it is the most unnatural thing in the whole world.

Really enjoyed last night's show. The idea of a team elimination really increased the tension.

Kelly finally backed up all of his talk with some decent shots. But when he described himself as a "free spirit" I literally cringed. Damn hippy with a polo shirt! tongue.gif (Check out the outtake video from when they told him that Bri wanted to change partners: http://www.thegolfchannel.com/core.aspx?pa...=6578&sid=0 --> it's the one called "Big Break VI: Episode 3 - Kelly's surprising reaction")

And I'm gonna have to jump on the bandwagon here and say that Bri just could not be any cuter. What a doll.
