It is interesting when Tiger does not win all you hear is, Tiger should sack his coach, why did he change his swing, he is not as good now as before blah blah blah
When he wins and wins and wins very quiet.

hank haney's ranch will be filled with the doubters i bet you see a move this winter by a few the seek the services of the hankster, and of tom stites. mark my word and also nikeproto. wish he was still around, anyone seen or heard from him?
peteman29
How much of Tiger's recent success can you attribute to Hank? I'd say about 10%

All Hank has done is press the ignition button, the rest has been down to the rocket man himself, Tiger.

Oh you know how it is, he wins 5 in a row and when he comes in 3rd on the 6th one he's a total and complete flop because he didn't win. Why? To these people it's the same things over and over again...

1. His swing sucks
2. His coach is crap
3. He uses Nike

How about

1. Your swing sucks
2. Who's your coach?
3. And? You use X brand here and you don't hit it like Tiger.

Gets so old sometimes. How about just enjoying him for what he's done to the game and what he's brought to professional golf.

so true. but the haters always find something to say, don't they? i say we're incredibly lucky to be around to see this guy do the things he does.

remember 10-15 years ago when everybody was lamenting how nobody on tour was stepping up to take on the mantle of "the next nicklaus"? i think some folks just prefer to b****, and they'll find something to b**** about regardless.

Fair assessment. TW said as much himself when he left Butch. TW felt he knew his swing, knew what he had to do and really did not need a coach. Then slowly Hank Haney comes out of the shadows to be the "eyes" for what TW already knows what he wants.

Regardless, it must be working. When is the last time someone won 5 straight starts on Tour in the last 60 years? Tiger, just a few years ago.

It was a very impressive start to the 4th round, six under through 7 is something not even TW does often in R4. VJ's back must feel sore today from the tire tracks.

I really dont like what Hank is doing with his swing at all, but regardless the guy is getting it done. But I would say hes getting it done more with the flat stick and course management then "good ball striking thanks to Hank Haney".

That's about 3% more than Tiger assigned to Butch's help. Remember Tiger saying he only used about 7% of what Butch told him. That would put Leadbetter and Smith at about .5% if Tiger ever went to them.

Whatever he's doing, he's making his swing more durable so it won't beat his body like his 2000 swing did. When he gets tired of this, he'll switch again to change with his body.

I sometimes like to criticize Tiger I will admit that.. I am one who likes to see other players play on TV other than watching coverage of Tiger on the putting green preparing for a round. I know he is the #1 player but viewers do have other favorites besides Tiger. I guess sometimes I get in the bad habit of thinking, if Tiger gets all the TV time, then he better be playing great to deserve that. I know it isn't Tiger's fault, but just the medias and I will admit that. What Tiger has done in the past five tournaments is beyond great.. His game is fantastic right now and nothing is going to stop him. His ability to focus is just amazing, it is truly something that nobody has or can come close to..

Ok I am having withdrawls now.. TIGER you better bring your A game to the Ryder Cup or I will have a few select words for you on here if you don't... smile.gif GO USA

The guy's just a freak of nature. He could probably re-make his swing to look like Furyk's and still be a top player. tomato.gif

Nah he is no freak of nature. Just a product of hard work, determination, and discipline, and a touch of tenacity.

The thing that makes Tiger so great is his ability to "grind it out" when he's having a bad day. When Phil is struggling with his swing he shoots 80 and is out of the tournament....when Tiger is having a bad day he shoots 73 and still has a chance to come back. Nobody makes more 15 foot PAR putts than Tiger and that's the difference.

His focus and determination are what carry him through. There are other players out there who can compete with Tiger for one day, when they are having a great day.....but to hang with him for 4 days is a different story.

I wonder how things would change if the PGA Tour played 2 day tournaments??? I'll bet there would be different world rankings....somebody should do some research and check it out.

I for one would say we are lucky enough to be watching the greatest player to ever play the game! Just like Michael Jordan was to basketball, TW is that to golf. I agree with some of the above posters, he might be the greatest grinder of any person in sports. He can hit shots at certain situations that no one else can even think about. The scary thing is, Steve Williams said the best is yet to come. How much better can he get? We will see! I say he is on course to win 10 more majors and possibly reach 100 tournament wins. Like him or not he is on another level!

Actually, the media are just showing what the viewing public want, so really, it's the viewers' fault. I hold myself up readily for the blame for that. I'd rather watch Tiger doing up his shoelaces than 90% of the other players out there. crazy2.gif

He might be doing it with his flatstick but it seems to be his irons that are allowing it to happen. Look at his stats. He's leading GIR, and also GIR from the rough. Statistically he's the closest to the hole from both the fairway or the rough and 3rd closest from over 200 yards.

As far as short game goes, he ranks 87th is proximity to hole from the sand, 86th in scrambling from the rough and 165th in scrambling from greater than 30 yards.

To me it seems that the new swing is allowing him to hit his irons close, even from out of the rough. Who cares is you're off the fairway and can still hit it close. His iron control seems supreme to me. And with his putter and putting himself on the green 73% of the time he's gonna score.

It's true,,,Tiger is the greatest golfer in history,,period. He may very well be the greatest athlete of all time.He has everything,,,talent, dedication, discipline, mental focus, imagination, class, presence, etc.,,,but what he has more than ANY athlete I have ever witnessed is "DESIRE".Desire beyond what we can understand,,,that is what astounds us all.
