Hey everyone...long time no chat, huh? I know...I know...I've been MIA, but for a good reason. It's high home-buying season right now. It seems everybody and thier mamma, uncle and dog wants to buy a house. And I'm the money gal. Cha-ching! yess.gif

Anyway, I volunteered at the Boeing Greater Seattle Classic this year and it was great! I got to meet Thorpe (hilarious, btw), Kite, Crenshaw and Quigley. Sorry, I didn't take any pictures with them...I'm not the type to ask, but the experience is something I'll treasure.

How are all you guys and gals? smile.gif You're my family on the www. heart.gif Hope everyone is doing well.

What committee did you volunteer for?

I was a standard bearer all three days.
Golf_Beauty
I was in the merchandising tent. Right behind the driving range...that was how I got to meet all the players. I hope you came in and spent some of your money. wink.gif

I couldn't bring myself to spend $16 on a hat. smile.gif

I didn't see you in their when I checked out the gear, I must have just missed you.

I did see some of the pro's hanging out by the ATM though. smile.gif

The hats were $18 actually. glare.gif I know...everything was overpriced in our humble opinions. I only worked during the weekdays...didn't work the weekend.

Glad to have you back Golf Beauty. friends.gif

Do you have any interesting stories to share with us regarding your experiences @ the Boeing Greater Seattle Classic?

Welcome back Alicia! I was wondering where you went! drinks.gif

Sorry...no interesting stories to tell. Just that Thorpe is hilarious! His caddy also. One of the volunteers asked Jim for his autograph and his caddy piped in, "His autograph??? You should be asking for mine. I'm the one doing all the hard work out there!" Jim readily laughs at and jokes about his swing. He knows it's not pretty but it gets the job done. Can't argue with that. Ben Crenshaw, Gentle Ben, is the sweetest man. I love his southern accent. He is such the gentleman. Very soft-spoken. And Dana Quigley is like the road runner! Ohmigosh...the man just seems to be constantly moving.

I had the most fun hanging out in the caddy shack. The caddies are really fun and down-to-earth guys. I'm going to volunteer again next year...it was that much fun.

I don’t want to thread steal, so you can delete this if you see fit.

But I have a few interesting stories/observations from the BGSC smile.gif

Massy Kuramoto is one nice guy. All the players like him, and would stop and chat with him on the range. He is very polite, and well spoken. For the records, he plays Tourstage X-Blade irons with MASSY engraved on the sole. They are very cool, his caddy let me take a close look at one. And he plays the Tourstage X-01 ball. Also with MASSY stamped on it. He hits the ball a long way too. Shot a 63 9 Under the first day ohmy.gif

Gary Player is a funny guy. Their was this kid, short and kind of on the chubby side, who kept bugging all the players on the range for autographs. He wasn't polite about it, either. Anyways, he asks Gary Player for an autograph right in the middle of a conversation with his caddy. Gary plays it cool and tells the kid to come through the ropes onto the range for a signature. He then says to the kid "So did you have some milk last night? You know, to grow real tall? How about some bacon? It looks like you did." I was cracking up. He completely made fun of this rude kid, was able to make it seem like he really wasn't, and no one noticed but me, his caddy, and the pro on the range next to him.

Sid Corliss was not putting well at all. Yet, the only time I saw him practicing was on the range with his driver and irons. He was using a Rife 2 Bar putter, which did its job perfect. He just had no sence of distance putting. But he did keep his head high, and his spirits up throughout it all. Which makes him more of a winner than many of the other players out their, if you ask me.

Jack Renner withdrew from the tournament after the second round for no apparent reason other than that he was doing really bad. Ironically, on one hole, He hit his second shot into the green on one of the par fours and thought it was really bad. So he turns around, while the ball is still in the air, and says really loud to a group of on lookers "It would be easier to play golf if people weren't so loud". The ball landed within feet of the hole, and got a very loud applause. He also told me, a standard bearer, and a walking scorer not to stand behind him when he is about to hit, even though we were always facing the players on every shot.

Joe Ozaki, Scott Masingill, and Dick Mast had combined 4 sand shots on one par three, and they all walked away with a par. That got a big applause from the crowd.

Dana Quigly had a fun time hitting shots over the heads of a couple volunteers as they were sitting outside the volunteer tent eating cheeseburgers. smile.gif

Joe Ozaki hit 15 bunkers in 3 days, and saved par on 14 of them. I was a standard bearer for him two of the three days, and his sand play was amazing.

Every player made perfect contact with the ball every time. It really blew me away how well they hit it, and how far.

They had Pro V 1's and Pro V 1X's as the practice range balls.

And on a final note, when you put a big inflatable apple on the side of the driving range, pro's will hit golf balls at it.

Thanks for the stories chesterrc. drinks.gif

Gary Player seems like a really neat guy. On the "playing Lessons with the Pros" he was so high energy it was hilarious.

I hate to hear about pros just quitting during a round because things are going poorly. Spoilt.
