Wow what a day. Got up early this morning and was at work at 5:30am to help setup for the one day Member-Guest at the course I work at. Well they were a group short so they had me play as a marker. I played really well and shot a +1 73 with 3 bogies and two birdies. Then came the fun part...
I ran home and made a sandwich and changed. Then met my roomate Nate who is a fellow WRXer(nfarzati) for 18 holes at Bay Hill. Nate helped me get out there, as well as a call from the GM I work for. So we teed off around 2:50 and cruised around. I shot a -2 34 on the front, and Nate shot a -1 35. We made the turn and continued cruising right around. We got to 16 tee and there was a long back up. After awhile we managed to play 16 then they sounded the horns for lighting. The sky was black. I didn't want to leave since I was even par through 16 holes at Bay Hill. So we headed in, waited it out for about 40 minutes then went back out to finish 17 and 18. I finished par par and had the up and down of my life on 18. The green is extremely narrow in the front and that's where the pin was. I hit 6 iron right at it, but it came up short and completely plugged in the hazard right near the rocks. So I took out my lob wedge and took a huge divot and hit my shot to about 6 feet and sank the putt for a 38 and ended up shooting 72. Nate shot -1 35 on the back as well as the front for a -2 70.
Here's my scorecard:
4 3 4 5 4 5 3 4 4=36 4 4 5 4 3 4 5 3 4=36=72
4 2 5 4 4 5 2 5 3=34 5 5 6 3 3 5 4 3 4=38=72

Kyle,
I noticed you switched to X-Tours. Was this your birthday present?
Do they play much differently than the Precepts?

No just bought them about a month ago. Got a great deal I couldn't pass up. They play way different than the Precepts. So much more forgiving, and about a club stronger. I don't really notice the extra bounce which I was worried about. So far so good. These things are idiot sticks.

Do Florida courses tend to play soft? If they do that extra bounce is no problem, mabye even a benifit.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes guys.
Serge, the ground in Florida is pretty soft for the most part, especially this time of year with all the heavy rain we get in the afternoons. There are however some spots that do get pretty firm, but I haven't had any trouble with those lies either. I think I'm in love with the X-Tours

The course was probably in great shape because they just finished playing the AJGA HP Boys Championship there.

It was pretty good. The greens weren't great aestheically great but they rolled well. The fairways were a little burned out in spots from mowing them so low from the tournament but for the most part were nice. It was about what I was expecting the week after the AJGA.

Andy, There is only so much you can do with a camera. I guess you could have used Photoshop to make him look better.
Sorry I missed your birthday wishes Kyle. My internet connection was down, so wasn't on top of things!!!

Yes, Newport Nat. is really great. Been there 3 times since last year. Toughest greens to read and very slick. Next time I'm not playing from 7250yds, with the wind its just way to tough from the back.

One bit of advice, NEVER GET MARRIED. Days like this would never happen.
Actually, I'm married and my birthday was last Friday (the 11th). I got to go play Piedmont Driving Club with a buddy. It's a very exclusive private club in Atlanta. We ended up playing 36 holes. When I got home, my wife took me to dinner at one of the best restaurants in Atlanta.
When I woke up the next morning, I wasn't sure if it all really happened.
