I am just curious about this topic.
Why would you buy a house on a golf course and then complain that you have broken windows, kids almost getting hit by balls, finding golfers hacking up your backyard, "watering" your lawn, lack of privacy, etc?
One course I play has a backyard only 10 yards from a tee box. The only thing that seperates their yard and the course is a small chainlink fence. The home owers were having a party and you could hear the owners complaining about the lack of privacy and even some guests shouting, insulting people teeing off or turning up music just as they are getting ready to hit.
I have seen some great complexes that really protect the homeowners privacy and safety, but most in my area have houses that are right by the tee box, landing areas on the fairway, or greens without any privacy or protection.
Why would you even want that house to begin with? If you do, why would you complain after you live there? You had to know what you were getting yourself into before finalized the purchase.

You definitely have to be smart about where you're going to buy on a golf course. Tee boxes and around the green probably isn't the best unless there's enough of a distance to give you privacy. A course-side purchase probably has more to do with ego than anything else...

Because they're ignorant airheads. But, it must be cool to live on a golf course.

Lack of privacy, noise, and balls hitting the house are going to happen so they should not complain about that. But people hacking up someone's yard or relieving themselves should not be tolerated. If I found someone in my backyard doing either of those things they would not pass go and would not collect $200 on the way to the emergency room.
In some instances people did not build their house on a golf course. Rather a golf course was built around their home. These people have nothing to do with the course yet they have to put up with Joe Hacker. I certainly have some sympathy for these people.

I have family on a course, and you just have to be cool, and know what comes with the territory. If you hit in the lawn, get your ball and take a drop back on the course. Pee and you are dead.
As for why live there, how would you like to walk out your backyard and have 150 to the center of the pin whenever you want?!?

All very very true.....but you do not sound like the people in question. Being a golfer you understand and enjoy living on a course.
To the original poster: I can't imagine complaining about privacy, when all you have up is a chain link fence....THAT is lame.

The course that I play at has houses on pretty much the entire front nine. They will not let them have wooden fences. They have to be rotiron bars. I have met most of them and everyone is really cool. One guy even offered me a hot dog and a beer when they were having a BBQ.
I asked him how it was living on a course and he said for the most part it's pretty cool. They give him a free membership for living right there and he goes out after 5:30 and hits 150 yarders to the pin with the range balls he picks up. I've also noticed that the people that live along the course have shatterproof windows on all of the course facing openings. That's just having a brain.
I talked to my wife about buying the model home on the 11th tee as it's a 170 yard par 3 with a beautiful view. We just built the house we live in now and it's only 2 blocks away. I doubt she's going to go for it

I would just chalk that up to stupidity and ignorance. People do have bad days and then there are just stupid people.

We've got an apartment complex that was built next to our course, in consultation with the club, and they were advertised as 'Golf Course Living' when the units were sold, obviously to promote the nice views of the course etc etc.
Anyway, now we (ie the Club) have been told we can't mow the greens near the apartments early in the morning before competitions because of noise compaints from the apartments. The closest apartment is about 60 or 70 yards from the nearest green. Anyway, so now we have to mow those 3 greens nearest the complex on the evening before any competition.
The Golf Club been there about 80 years, and the apartments about 8.
Go figure...

I live on a course ( I am in no way bragging just stating) and I always have wondered why so many of my neighbors don't play golf. ( I presume because of the status) I purposely did not build on a hole because of the added cost and loss of privacy. Yes I have found balls in my front yard(you have to blow a** to hit one in my yard) but I have no complaints. I like the convenience of being able to go out in the evening and hit approach shots or putt on the hole by my house. I can also say that it has improved my golf game because I am so lazy that I would not have driven very far to go to a range or practice facility. The nice thing about our community is that there is a house that falls within anyone's price range so it is not too expensive to live there. Thank God for zoning!
