So Trackside, which is a talk show on Fridays before a race weekend of nascar, was on tonight. One of the guests was Steve Williams. Most of the talk was about Steve racing and sorts. One thing that was pretty interesting was them making the comparision of a Crew Chief for a driver as a caddie is for a golfer. Steve completely agreed. They discussed how both crew chiefs and caddies are there to give information, to help the player/driver, and to fix things for them. One of the drivers was talking about how he wants to know everything that is going on track with other drivers and he asked Steve how Tiger is about stuff like that. Steve says something like, "well, there are different types of people. Some don't want to know anything, no leaders, not how many strokes behind they are. They just want to play their game." Then he says, "Tiger...he wants to know EVERYTHING. He wants to know what he has to do to achieve what he needs to do."
I thought that was pretty interesting. It's been known Tiger likes to know stuff, but hearing it first hand from Steve was cool. It also started me thinking about something I saw where Tiger says, "I never thought I had the best talent (yeah, I know, I want to puke too...), but the one thing I had that not many other people had was that I ALWAYS wanted to destroy you playing golf. And that determination is what got me where I'm at."
I know this kind of changes the subject, but I made it, I do what I want!

This got me thinking about Wie. I've been struggling to really form an opinion about her. Is she an awesome talent? There is no doubt about it. But this really made me realize how she doesn't have that "kill" button in her brain like Tiger does. She doesn't want to go out and destroy every opponent. Sure she says that she wants to beat the men, but thats just the immaturity talking. Will she do it one day? It is very very possible, but she must learn that mentality of wanting to destroy people. Until she develops that, she will just be getting by on talent, which is amazing enough to get her several top 5s in Womens major tournaments. I hope she learns it. I think it would sustain and double the impact that Tiger has had on golf.
I'd like to know what all you guys think about this. Nothing like a good deep psychology discussion...
