While looking at the list of Big Break contestants and I noticed Gavin Slabbert's name on the list. I know he's a member here and let's give him good wishes.

QUOTE
Gavin Slabbert, 51, Orange Park, Fla.
Trying to make up for lost time
Perhaps no one grew up farther from big time golf than Slabbert, who was born and raised in the outpost of Port Elizabeth, South Africa. He first played golf at the age of 4 and won a junior tournament two years later. After quitting golf for 25 years, he played one round of golf and claims to have shot 65 to get hooked on the game again. During his absence from the game he moved to California and was a computer engineer. Currently Slabbert plays on the Heartland Tour.
The Big Break show concept pits highly skilled golfers against each other in a variety of challenges that test their physical skills and mental toughness. During The Big Break VI: Trump National, two golfers – one man and one woman – will be eliminated from the series each episode, with the last man and woman players standing awarded their “Big Break,” a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete in Champion Tour and LPGA Tour events, respectively, with some of the best golfers in the world.
The weekly drama will unfold on one of the most picturesque golf courses in the world, Trump National Golf Club, Los Angeles, located on the Palos Verdes Peninsula just 30 minutes south of downtown Los Angeles. Every hole is a sight to behold – with most perched just above the jagged California cliffs – and as the “most expensive golf course ever built,” the 18-hole layout offers a challenge to experienced and novice golfers, alike.

Good luck to him.
Now I already have someone to root for, before the show even starts!

Good for him. Even better for the golf channel. I can't imagine what it's going to be like for these 50+ aged guys to be around these 20 something women during the taping. That is going to be hilarious. Hopefully someone on the show will have no inner monologue.

Good luck Gavin!
Not to threadjack, but I actually know Kelly Murray, "The Canadian Canon". He's a Natural Golf guy and used to teach at the range where I practiced. The sold the range to some big time real estate developers so I haven't seen him in nearly a year....
That's pretty cool...two people in the BBIV I'm loosely associated with!

It's definitely a small world. I played with another contestent, Jeff Mitchell, about 2 months ago in a charity tournament. They were having Big Break auditions at the course that day, but I didn't even ask him about whether or not he had tried out.
Heck of a nice guy who won on tour back in 80 or 81 and was most recently the golf coach at Stanford.

Thanks for your well wishes. Obviously I cannot tell you about the filming, the show or the results. All I can say is it is WAAAAY more difficult than you can possibly imagine. I had a great time at Trump National during the filming and this show will be better than any other so far. If you guys have any questions, ask them and I will run them through the Media relations / PR guy to find out how they can be best answered (and if they can be answered) without violating any non discloure clauses.
What you can look for is the interaction between the 25 year old girls (and younger) and the 50 +year old guys. Quite an interesting scenario

Great to hear from you Gavin! Like I said earlier..I'll be rooting for you and just noticed Bridget Dwyer from Honolulu, Hawaii too! Little trivia on Bridget, she graduated from Punahou High School, the same school Michelle Wie attends.

Kelly Murray is a local from the Vancouver area. I played a couple of times with/against him in the 80-90's.He is the longest 49 year old I have ever seen.

I see you got/get to play with Charlie Gibson. I use to play Sat. mornings with Charlie in Sonoma County. He is a good guy and very gracious.
