Hey guys, just trying to get a little information. I would love to find a job with a company as a sales rep, or anything in the golf business other than being a club or assistant pro. I have a family which is my top priority, and the club pro jobs just simply take way too much time. The money an assistant makes is absolutely unthinkable, can't believe people can survive off that salary with a family. I would love a job that keeps me around golf, and would really enjoy doing the demo days and talking about equipment with customers, I have always kind of had a talent for that. The problem is, I don't know where to look or how to go about finding these jobs! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

From what I understand, the local rep jobs aren't easy to come by - and you have to put in your time to get them. Many of the reps I know of started out working in a shop somwhere - either at a course or somewhere like GolfGalaxy. They then happened upon the jobs when someone else was leaving.

Some golf stores pay 'ok' depending on how much product you move - it may be a way to start in the industry. The golf industry is one of those things where you have to get your foot in the door somewhere - you have to pay your dues and work the hard hours. I know a few that have worked their tail off and do very well for their family.

Its a difficult process and would be even harder if your the primary source of income. If you have college degree, maybe you can try working for corp?

Yeah, I tried it right after college and did OK, but it just seems like the nominal pay has not escalated like the cost of living has. I'd love to play for a living, but can't afford to take the time to develop my short game as needed, at the same time though, I have tried that, and now that I have a family, I wouldn't take the risk again. Might just have to try the GolfGalaxy thing in a year or so when I move away from here.

www.pga.com go to the employment link. Most people ask for 5 years industry experience but there are alot of entry level jobs too. If you want to be a rep the two best paths...work for corp...ie customer service/inside sales or be an independent carrying several lines in a territory until you've built up a reputation and apply for big company jobs. Then there is always the PGA pro route....although with a family to support I wouldnt recomend the aprentice wages.
