ORLANDO, Fla. (June 7, 2006) – With Phil Mickelson winning the last two majors he now poses a threat to Tiger Woods’ supremacy. The Golf Channel examines the dynamic of the two superstars in Tiger vs Phil; The Rivalry airing June 13 at 9 p.m. ET.
With the U.S. Open as a backdrop, the Golf Central Special Presentation will analyze the complexity of a perceived rivalry between Woods and Mickelson that spans head-to-head duels and verbal jabs to teaming in Ryder Cup matches and interacting on President’s Cup teams.
Featuring a spectrum of interviews ranging from journalists to fans, the show’s focus is on the reasons for, and if there is, a rivalry.
While not as hyped as Woods, Mickelson was a prodigy who won on the PGA Tour while an amateur. However, unlike the world’s best player, the left-hander didn’t have instant success in the majors. Now the gap has closed and the two are intertwined by something that goes beyond records and is harder to define.
Is Mickelson a lasting foe of Woods or is he one of many who have made a challenge only to fall back to the pack? Will a feud develop and heat up to the intensity of an Ali/ Frazier, Red Sox/Yankees, or Georgia/Georgia Tech proportion? Tiger vs Phil; The Rivalry provides answers to these and other questions.
Tiger vs Phil; The Rivalry will air immediately following Live From the U.S. Open. The Golf Channel will be at Winged Foot Golf Club, the site of this year’s U.S. Open, to report on all the action as part of the cable network’s tournament coverage.
The cable network’s most comprehensive, wrap-around news coverage, Live From the U.S Open features The Golf Channel’s experts covering the most compelling news and delivering expert analysis. Live From will air from 7 – 9 p.m. ET on June 13 and June 14 -18 at 7- 10 p.m. ET.
