I think Tiger could be in the Top 3, I hope so. But after his father's death I hope he can concentrate on his game.

He'll be fine. I don't know if he'll win, but I know he'll have a top ten finish. Sunday will be the most interesting day to watch because it will be father's day. If he keeps his emotions in check he's got a good chance. Remember, MJ won his first championship after retirement on father's day. I think if Tiger uses his dad as motivation much like MJ did he will do well. It will be a great story though if he does pull the win off.

Tiger will win!

I mean come on you can't beat a feel good story like that to get the masses all buzzed on watching golf again. Has to happen.

My guess is either he will win going away or either trying to play to hard do pretty bad(for tiger that is). I think the final round falls on Fathers Day so I know he would like to make a statement.

he will win going away...

Although i would really like him to do well, the long layoff from competition may hurt him a bit, especially coming back to an event as mentally demanding as the open, and a course like winged foot.I don't see him contending, but i hope i'm wrong!!!

Too much rust, even for Tiger. Maybe a top ten but Phil wins in NY!

Yes, he took a long break but Tiger wouldn't play in the tournament if he felt like he wasn't prepared. He will have his game back to normal by the start of the open. He took a long break, but I guarantee you that he hit plenty of balls during the break.

he will give a good account of himself, will he win? if no one goes lower than him he'll win

He has a great motivating factor -- Earl. He will play his heart out, not only in memory of his father, but for his mother also, who I'm sure will be standing on the sidelines. cray.gif This win will be for the parent that's no longer with him and for his mother who has lost her life partner. The tournament may help them take their minds off of the grief, if only for a short while.

I'm rooting for him, but won't be surprised if Sunday becomes a bit much for him, and doesn't come out on top.

Of course losing a parent is very hard. But if ANYONE can overcome this, it's Tiger. He is so mentally tough it's scary. I say he will be there sunday when the back 9 comes. He always is. He knew he was losing his dad when he played the masters and he was there sunday. Take for instance, Dale Earnhardt jr in 2001 when he lost his dad at the daytona 500. How did he overcome that, by winning the biggest race in nascar a year later.

Tiger will be there no matter what. He has a way of being there when it counts. All great athletes are. MJ, Gretzky, Jeff Gordon, Andretti, Richard Petty, Jack, Arnie.

Winning will be a story book ending, can Tiger do it, no doubt.

I hope that tiger wins too, but realistically I think he will hang tough but in the end come up a bit short. Probably finish somewhere between 10-20th place. I think that his ball striking will be ok, bbut he has not putted well for much of the year, and after his puttin performance in last years open, I just don't seem him winning it.

I'd love to see a Phil/Tiger duel on Sunday, but I don't see how Tiger's game can be in US Open shape. But if his dad is there on his shoulder he could come up with an inspired performance for the ages.

I think Tiger will play really hard but i don't see him winning. I think about a top 20 is where he'll finish

Leading after 3 rounds and the pressure of the moment ironically will get to his competitors moreso than TW. I see a similar ending to Bethpage with TW surprising most on how straight he drives the ball.

Aside from all that, the one factor that will determine how far TW goes at the Open is of all things, his distance control with irons.

Exactly. Tiger's mental toughness will help him be there at the end. The pressure of leading one of the Biggest tournaments in golf will get to his competitors before it gets to Tiger. He's been there before and won. Some guys haven't tasted a US open lead.

If he can dial in his irons, i think it'll be Tiger's to lose.

You have to know he is playing this tournament for his dad, and with the closing round being on fathersa day it would mean all the more to Tiger and his family.

Folks are talking that his mind wont be on golf but these are the same ones who speak so highly of his mental toughness and his ability to block out everything while on the golf course.

Seems like every year in some major sporting event a well known player loses a parent or family member and they have there best game after finding out the news. Tigers had time to accept the fact that his father has passed away and play good golf. He will never forget his father as you will never forget your parents but we all must move on. How many people can afford the luxury of as much time off from thier job after the passing of a loved one???? Most business give 2-3 days of for brevment.

Projection after all that Tiger over Retief by one with a birdie on 18 to win the US Open.
