Playing 4,6,7, and 8 next week. Any reviews or pics? How will course conditions be?
theinsider
Played there two weeks ago. Played 1,2,4,8

All in great shape. Some spots on 10th green on #2 but still rolled fast.

Courses had seen a lot of water so they were softer than I have played them in the past.

That is a good rotation you are playing - #6 would be the weakest.

#8 is stellar visually and playability wise.

The rough was getting longish on #2 - hit it in the fairway or forget reaching or holding the greens.

Any specific questions you can PM me.

Have fun!

PS. Take a caddie on #2 and accept ANY putting advice they provide no matter what you think you see. And on #4 do what you can to avoid the 160+ bunkers.

I'm playing 2 and 6 next Thursday and Friday. What were the greens rolling on 2 on the stimp? Any guess? I would love to play it when they're rolling about a 12!

You'll have to play in the summer then. They might have been 9.5. If you've never played there before believe me that is about all you will want. Unless you like watching chip shots roll over greens opposite of you or simply reaching crests and rolling back to you! good.gif

It'll be my first time and it's at the time of the year where the weather has slowed me down enough that my short game isn't where it was a few weeks ago so maybe you're right!

Here's a few pics from Pinehurst. The course pictures are from #4. Not sure what the conditions will be, but they were like this in the hot days of July.

right now you should be hitting the pinehurst area at the right time.....the courses all should have had the greens punched.....and they have probably already overseeded ( which at this point in time wont have any effect)

actually it is easier for the courses in pinehurst to speed the greens up now....as the summer the resort tries to protect them from the heat and wont cut them too short ......

as for hoping to play the resort rolling 12.....that might be wishful thinking....I have not seen them speed them greens to that degree unless a big time tourney is about to be played or a member guest is about to start...and even then, 12 is pretty brutal on these courses......

Some more pictures. This was from May, I remember the course looked like it needed some rain. Right now conditions are great. Overseeding has been completed. Have had great weather, enough rain and cooler night weather.

It is an active debate but many locals consider #7 the most dificult of the courses. You are playing a very nice selections of courses.

We have seen only a couple of mornings with frost delays, keep this in mind and call ahead.

I played 4 and 8 a couple weeks ago. It was a rainy-cool weekend, but both courses were in great shape. The overseeded fairways were just filling in. As pointed out: No. 4 avoid the bunkers and waste areas. No. 8, not too bad from tee to green. Many holes have tough greens, crowns and hollows, so putting can be a challenge even if you hit the right landing areas. The courses were wet when I played, so holding shots was not difficult, but getting close to the pin was. Overall, the greens were in excellent condition. The fairways were good, but not perfect due to the overseeding. The rough was thick in many places and deep in places on No. 4--not so bad on No. 8.

If you haven't played No. 4 and No. 8, they are a visual treat.

No. 2, No. 4 and No. 8 are my favorites*, although as noted No. 7 is a challenge.

You should have a great time. Hit 'em well!

*Although a like No. 1 a lot, too.
