I live in the western most part of NC and I'm looking for some good stroke play events this winter. I don't mind driving up to 4-5 hours for a good event. Any ideas please let me know!

I'm in the same area as you and I've also been looking for tournaments to play in. Other than FL, I haven't seen any good amateur events.

I found one that's being run by the Carolinas PGA Section at TPC Piper Glen but that's a one day and not until mid-January. I'll keep looking and if I find any i'll let you know.

I thought for sure we could find something around Greensboro and/or Myrtle Beach.

the Egolf amateur tour is big in the SE including the Carolinas, but our season runs from late Feb to end of Oct. It's too bad because many of us like to play year round, but I guess the thinking is that many people do not, and trying to plan a tournament on a given Saturday during Dec, Jan, Feb is rolling the dice with weather somewhat. You can always pick days to play, but certainly many days you don't want to be out there.

I used to play in that tour some, but the "local" tour I played on fell apart. I might play some of the Asheville events next year. Mainly just to play in the tour champ in Hilton Head.

Where are you guys in NC from exactly?

That is not western NC! I am in western NC, five minutes from GA. Seriously, it is nice to know I am not the only golf nut in the area.

There is the WNC Open, a few good stroke play tournaments in Tennessee that I have heard of, and always the egolf tour.

I am always up for a game if you are looking. Aces, I will be in Waynesville tonight, in fact.

I'm 15 minutes to the TN line, that's western enough for me. I played in the WNC Open, it was back in August. The OP is looking for something during the off season.

I've got a buddy that runs a local one day tour:

Seems to be a good operation with a pretty high pay out ratio as compared to other similar "tours".

Waynesville and Boone and I'm about halfway between the both of you.

Sounds like we need to set up a WNC golfwrx championship.

yes but....... paying $165 for a chance to win $1200 or so for first .............. this makes you a professional. Which excludes you from all the USGA, GSGA, egolf tour, amateur golf tour, etc. events. Correct? And word of mouth travels pretty quick, it's a small world.

It's a professional tour, but any am under a 3 handicap can play. Instead of a check, ams when pro shop credit not exceeding $750. They do have a pretty nice payout and play some nice courses. Maybe next year they can have more than 4 tournaments?
