Hey All,

Golf season is almost over here in the northeast. Can someone explain the inactive season rules for me. Am I suppose to enter any scores I play within the past 2 weeks? I am part of the MGA and the information below is a little confusing.

Any help would be appreciated.

It says that yesterday was your last day for posting, which means any scores you shoot in your New York region between now and next April should not be posted. If you travel somewhere where their season is still or is always open, you should post those scores as you shoot them.

I almost made a mistake by posting an after-season score once, and either the USGA's or my course's computer (I can't remember which) stopped me from posting it. I'm not sure that will occur for you, but it's possible.

Here's a chart on other New York region's and other place's closing dates:

ahh that makes sense. What do the revision dates mean on the link you sent. That's what I couldn't figure out.

The revision dates are the dates that they recalculate and update your handicap index based on the list of scores you have at that date/time.

You'll notice that during the season, they update your index every two weeks or so. During the offseason, they update only once per month, to accomodate people who play where there is an open season (like if you take a trip to Florida in December and play there, you should enter that score).

I'm not sure if the handicap computer will let you enter a score during the offseason- unfortunately, I've never had to do it! But if it does not, you can keep your scores until the start of next season and enter them at that time. I don't believe there is any limit to how far back you can enter a score.
