1) Player's first shot falls short of the green on a par 3. Next shot is a duff into the trap. Third shot out of the bunker wedges between the flagstick and the side of the cup. (never touched the green). The ball is half in and half out of the hole, held in place by the flag stick. How should this be handled? (Pretty amazing 3rd shot by a high handicapper in our group and one of the craziest things I've seen on a golf course)

2) All four players are on the green (no one has putt yet). Player #1 putts as player number 2 is walking around the green to his ball. Player #1's ball hits player number 2's ball. How should this be handled?

3) Player's approach shot flys the green and lands within 3"s of a fence that separates the golf course from a person's yard. Does he/she get relief from the fence?

Thanks for your help!

1) Jiggle the flag stick so the ball falls below the circumferance of the hole. (no spell check on this computer, and I'm an idiot. I know I butchered circumferance) laugh.gif

2) 2 stroke penalty on the player who putted and hit the ball. The ball of #1 is played where it ends up. The other players ball, #2s, gets replaced where it was. (Glad there were no big words in this answer) laugh.gif

3) If the fence defines the boundary, no relief.

Simply remove the flagstick carefully, if the ball falls into the hole it is holed. If it moves away it must be placed on the lip of the hole without penalty. Rule 17-4

Player #1 gets a two stroke penalty and #2 must replace his ball. Rule 19-5

On the assumption that the fence defines the Out of bounds, there is no relief. Except under penalaty of one stroke using rule 28 (unplayable ball)

1) Carefully remove the pin, if the ball drops it's considered holed, if not play it from where it lies.
2) Two stoke penalty to player 1
3) Assuming that fence designated OB then no relief.

Wow, thank you all for the quick response. It sounds like we sort of handled the situations correctly.

1) I pulled the flag very slowly and the ball dropped in for par.
2) I at least got the call right even if the player who putted didn't believe me. (Oddly enough it was the same guy in the same round as situation #1)
3) We told him to play it where it lies or declare it unplayable. He decided to try the shot and broke his sandwedge. I'm happy to hear we called it right so I can stop listening to him blame me for his broken club.

Again thanks!
