Cant go wrong with La Quinta Resort.. Take a look at The Classic Club too as far as a course to play!

The classic club is a good course. Indian Wells is great. But if you somehow can pull it off, since its private, I HIGHLY recommend The Madison club. Discovery properties are the bomb!!

La Quinta is extremely nice. You can choose to play 6 courses I believe, including the famed PGA West Stadium Course. The Mountain Course at La Quinta had plans to undergo a major renovation, but with the economy, I don't believe they fully went thru with it. The resort is nice as well as the golf.

The Classic Club course is a horrid design that gets lots of play due to it being in the rotation of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. The clubhouse is a mammoth beast and the course is....shall we say.......it's outdoors. That's about it. The Classic Club is not a resort, however, just a golf course.

Other resorts to consider:

Westin Mission Hills...36 holes, one Pete Dye and on Gary Player course. Most prefer the Player Course, the resort is decent.

Marriot Shadow Ridge..Nick Faldo Course, really great layout, resort is more condo's, not a big Marriot Hotel-type place. Rooms are so-so.

Marriot Desert Springs...36 Ted Robinson holes..Palm Course is more flattering than the Valley Course. This is the more traditional Marriot Hotel place.

Desert Willow...36 holes...FireCliff Course is exceptional, a local fav. Mountain View Course is average. Resort is more time-share style but very stylish.

I'd stay away from Rancho Las Palmas...kinda a dive.

Fantasy Springs Casino/Hotel in Indio has a fantastic Clive Clark design, always in really good shape.

Indian Wells..36 holes Celebrity Course..lots of flowers, eye candy stuff...Players Course more meat and potatoes but a fun tract. Resort here is very, very nice as well. About 2 miles separates this resort with La Quinta Hotel.

Hope this helps. Obviously you can google everything listed above and check 'em out for yourself for prices, packages, etc....

2 years ago my girl and I went La Quinta. $309/day for a 400 sq. ft. casita, unlimited golf for 2. That was in the first week of December. Great deal.

This post is pretty much spot on.
Classic club is an over-hyped, wind-blown track.
However, another course in the Bob Hope rotation that is worth it: SilverRock, great experience every time I've played there.

La Quinta resort is probably the best deal for stay/play, simply because of the variety of courses directly available to it. But if you have the time/resources, you could play a lot of these other great tracks without staying at their hotels.

I have stayed and played at the following of the above recommendations:

1. Marriot Shadow Ridge
2. Indian Wells
3. Westin Mission Hills

Indian Wells was my favorite accomodations and courses followed by Marriot Shadow Ridge. Indian Wells is also on the main strip and alot more convenient to restaurants, shops, etc.

Also LG Prime is the best steak house out there.

I agree that Classic Club is somewhere you won't enjoy playing. The layout isn't great and the wind on that side of the interstate is a pain.

Silver Rock, also part of the Hope, is a good course. I really enjoyed the Mountain Course. My Dad lives at Trilogy (I can't remember what's it's been renamed) where the Skins were played from '03-'06 (???) and it's a fun layout. Nice to just say you played the Stadium Course.

I haven't played the Madison Club but another great private track is The Quarry if you can get on. I've played it twice and it's quite memorable.

I live and play in the desert. I would reccomend in no particular order Desert Willow (the mountain view course will be the only one available but is has undergone some major rennovations), PGA West Stadium course( it has just been renamed a TPC course), Silverrock(the only public course in The Bob Hope), Indian Wells Golf Resort(former home of the last two skins games), Shadowridge(Nick Faldo's first 18 hole design in the united states). As far as places to stay, I would reccomend the Marriott Desert Springs or The Hyatt Grand Champions resort. There are a lot of really great restaurants here also. If you want any more information let me know.

Bump for this thread.....

Does anyone know what the current conditions are like for PGA West (Stadium course)? Heading out to play this week, but I understand many courses in the area are undergoing maintenance......
Australian_Blade
Madison Club

Vintage Club

Classic Club

Desert Willow

In that order.

sounds like Australian Blade has connections at the Madison Club. It is a cool quarter of a million to join. Nice!

Madison is the $#IT!!

If you have a connection to go there...do it!!

Im going out to the Desert in April and wondering if this is high season
What are the costs of golf at that time - can anyone help
pengster1970
Ok, the Madison club looks great, but for the rest of us without connections to that club, what would be the best (public) places to play this time of year? I just got note that PGA West just went through maintenance, so that wont work.
