I never really got out and took pictures of my home course in the fall. Its actually quiet nice. I wish it was a bit warmer so I could enjoy it more.

Your course looks VERY NICE. Does it have a name? This was The Quarry where I played a round last weekend (Canton, Ohio)
Carolina Golfer 2
Here's one I played this past weekend, Wolf Laurel CC in Mars Hill, NC about 45 minutes north of Ashville. We were probably about 5 days too early for peak color, I imagine this weekend it will be spectacular there.

What's the vertical drop on that par 3? Cool hole, I have played one in PA very similar to it..it was crazy scary going down the path in the cart!

Close to 200 feet. You can't tell from the picture but the tee box is so narrow, you get the feeling you're going to fall over the edge on your follow through.

It plays 195, I hit a 7 iron. I laughed and told my nephew and brother in law who I was playing with, now I can go back home and say I hit a 7 iron 195 yards. Actually probably closer to 200 as I was about 15 feet above the flag, just missed the birdie putt sad.gif

You're right about the cart path. It took I bet close to 3 to 5 minutes to make it's way down the hill as it had to take a very curvy, zig zag route to keep the cart from flying out of control. I'd hate to be riding in the cart with anyone that had been drinking on this course. Lots of elevation changes.

I played one in PA as well, that was pretty steep but not quite as much as this one. I can't remember the course name right now but it was in SE PA near either Harrisburg, Lancaster, York something like that.

Having grown up in Ohio, I have to say that course you played in Canton looks pretty special. Too bad all my friends are in SW Ohio, or I'd find an excuse to go back for a visit.

Great pics by the original poster, the one with the bridge is really nice.

Here is one I took last week at Turner Hill Golf Club, Ipswich, Ma. A beautiful par 3 that plays 135 to 155 yds depending on which tee you play from.

Gotta get some pics of my course now. It's pretty this time of year.

By chance was the Olde Homestead in the Blue Mountains?

Beautiful pictures, folks.

But what is Fall?

In Houston we have Spring for a few months, then about 6 months of Summer, then months of Hurricane Season, then Winter for about 3 weeks. laugh.gif

Hey CG, I am in Winston Salem and my buddy and I want to play somewhere in Western Carolina Halloween weekend maybe depending on weather and this place looks great. Was it in good shape? How much was it for 18? Anywhere else that you would recommend more than this? Thanks.

The hole I played just like it was at Hunter Station near Oil City, PA. You either hit the green or it was lost. Your course looks to have a bit more landing area though. I think that the one I played was around 155 yards with a 150+ foot drop. My ball hit the green and was completely plugged. I hit a wedge if I remember correctly. We had a really hard time deciding what to hit here. Here it is....

I'm right outside of Philly in Delaware County. My home course in Rolling Green GC in Springfield, PA. What about you?

It is where where OIL was discovered and home to the longest ever pumping oil well! Northwest corner of the state....I have buddies in CT and we meet there each fall since it is 1/2 way inbetween Cincinnati and CT.

Redman, It was in great shape. I've told a few people, the greens are absolutely the best and FASTEST I've played on this year maybe even EVER. And I love fast greens, but these took me a good 5 or 6 holes to even begin to get the feel of. Lots of undulation as well. If I had the feel of them, I would have shot at least 6 or 7 strokes better.

As for overall conditions, I'd say about a 8 out of 10. A few of the tee boxes were not immaculate as for cut length, but they were out that day cutting. The fairways were perfect, i dont' know what sort of grass it is, but the lies were very nice. The rough was pretty thick and added to the difficulty of elevated shots into the green. A few holes that I missed the fairway on, I had to decide to lay up to have a good shot into the green. Every hole plays either uphill or downhill. I don't think there was one flat hole on the course.

I'm sorry I can't tell you about price, as my brother in law picked up the tab for the whole group smile.gif it is a private course, you have to be a member or staying at one of the rentals. if you go to the Asheville, NC thread in the Souteast folder I think. I posted a really long detailed description of the house we rented and all. If it's just two of you , you can probably get a condo in the neighborhood of $150 a night and then green fees. We had a house with 6 in it with room for 2 or 3 more and paid $250 a night.

I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nice mountain retreat and golf.

No worries, I live and play at Blue Bell CC. Let's keep in touch and tee it up next year.

If you hop on Route 80 and keep driving west you'll see signs for Oil City as you get closer to Pittsburgh.

The hole at Olde Homestead is very similar. The first few times I played it I really had no idea of what to hit.

True dat, but you'll be playing in shorts most likely in January when all we're doing is reading golf mags, watching the Phoenix Open waiting for that first day where the temps sneak up to 50 degrees and we can call out of work and go out and play a hardened course where you need a hammer to drive the tee in the ground, but get 60 yards of roll out of your drives smile.gif

Okay, one more from the trip, just to rub it in smile.gif

I was actually visiting there, as I live in Maryland. So I don't know the area at all. Although from reading that Ashville thread I mentioned, it seems like The Grove Park Inn in Ashville rates pretty high from some people. If you can find that thread, there were a lot of other courses mentioned.

Heritage Hills in York, Pa. has a hole with a fairly steep vertical drop from the tee and a windy, downhill cart ride. I can't remember the yardage or the hole number because I haven't played there in years.

Edit: Cool Creek (between York and Lancaster) has a par three that features so much of a vertical drop you can barely see the green from the tee. That might be the hole you're thinking of?

Beautiful pictures guys. I'm playing Quarry Oaks in Ashland, NE this weekend (20-30 minutes from Omaha) and I'll see if there are any worthy "Kodak" moments that I can add.

It's a beautiful course and I have to imagine that the crazy weather we've been having should produce some nice Fall photos. Last weekend was snow, the entire week has been 30's-40's and this weekend should be 40's-50's...

Ahh yes, the winter blues for the Ohio golfer. I can get through Nov (3 day SC trip) and Dec (3 day NC trip) OK, it's Jan and Feb and a lot of March as usual.

I should have stayed in SC while going to college there!

I used to go to conferences at the Grove Park Inn and cut out of the meetings about 2 p.m. and go play 9 holes. It was November and the rates were very reasonable considering, around $30 or so cart included. The course was renovated a few years ago, and now the rates are much higher. But it's a fun course to play and now in top condition.
Tmiller72
That's a great deal at Grove Park. During the summer it can be around $150. I'm not crazy about the course though. They normally keep the fairways was too long.

Redman, there isn't a ton of public golf in western NC. Most of the good public golf is around the Asheville area. I'm north of Asheville and most courses close the last weekend in Oct. Feel free to PM me and I can tell you some courses that stay open year round in the Asheville area.

THATS IT!!! Heritage Hills, I knew I would know it if I heard it. Heritage's was probably the biggest drop I've seen prior to this course Wolf Laurel. I think there is a par 4 that has a big drop also, maybe no. 14 or something like that kind of right next to the tee of the par 3 at Heritage Hills if I remember correctly. But I could be wrong on that. It's been at least 5 years since I played it.

Thank you. Its a Canon PowerShot S5IS. So its not a full blown SLR but its not a pocket digital either. I use it when I want to take good quality pictures and lugging it around isn't an issue. Its great for taking pictures I want to use as my desktop background. You've got a great memory! The par 3 is No. 5 (178 yds.) and it's No. 16 next to it (driveable 357 yds.)--dog leg right and pretty much all the air you can carry. I haven't played there in about 10 years, but you're making me want to go back! No. 18 is one of the most difficult holes around. 457 yard par 4 from the blues with the landing area between two ponds! The first time I was ever on the verge of breaking 80 I only needed a bogey on 18 and figured I could play it as a par 5. But alas I found the H20 off the tee. rolleyes.gif

I apologize to others for the hijack! I love course photography and I'm enjoying the pics. Can't wait to take a few of my own.

That is a great camera. I bought one for work a couple of years ago (maybe it was last year, dont exactly remember). It takes great pics, but it is too bulky for me to carry around. I toted it around Cancun on my honeymoon, and swore I would never take it on another vacation.

Those are some great looking courses guys. I too am in Houston, and not only do we not have a "changing of the seasons" so to speak, we also dont have any real elevation changes. It is so flat down here it is ridiculous.

Stallion,

At any point are you going to tell us what course that is?

I echo Lama's comments. I love taking pictures of golf courses (thus why I have a Webshots page) and whenever I am playing a picturesque course I always take my camera. Between the grass, trees, water and foliage there's so many things to photograph. I have some great pictures from Le Diable in Canada and Wolf Creek in Mesquite that I need to find on my old computer to post on my Webshots page.

Looking at that course, I cannot believe it is as inexpensive as it is, relatively speaking. add to that the fact that it is up north where everything is notoriously expensive, and that makes it even more impressive.

^^^^ Awesome pics. The colors are phenomenal, and I don't think I'd want to go long into that green smile.gif Just out of curiosity how
long of hole is it. The picture is probably deceptive, but it looks like a near drive able hole.

edit: on second look, I guess it's a par 3, if they are the same hole. In any case stunning hole.

Some powerful reasons to live in The States. I hope all those courses stay open and prosperous for many years.

Love the Otsego Club. Last year we played one of the Treetops courses in the morning, then the Tribute at Otsego in the afternoon, then all-you-can eat ribs (some of the best I've had) at the Otsego for dinner, then an MMA match (19 fights) at the Otsego that evening. What a day!
