One of the group I played with said he saw jim furyk chip on the green took a divot. any rules about chipping on the green? I thought about this since we have one hole with a huge green but with severe slope.

Nope no rule against it but I assure you if you start chipping on greens at your local club and taking divots they will come up with a local rule if they do not kill ya

It is allowed within the rules of golf, but I don't know of any courses that would see it as acceptable on their greens. Also, as a courtesy to other golfers I would never chip on a green. To me, damaging the green would not be worth the possible stroke I would save.
