Someone hit their ball and knocked my ball into the hole. I was on the putting green and they were on the fringe. Am I penalized or rewarded?
jaskanski
Neither - you just replace your ball to where it was. Your opponent gets to play his or her ball from where it ends up - unless it goes in the hole, which is their good fortune.

If a ball in play and at rest is moved by another ball in motion after a stroke, the moved ball must be replaced. Rule 18-5.

For the ball which is stoppend or deflected by Your ball ar rest, we have
Rule 19-5 a):

If a player's ball in motion after a stroke is deflected or stopped by a ball in play and at rest, the player must play his ball as it lies.
In match play, there is no penalty.
In stroke play, there is no penalty, unless both balls lay on the putting green prior to the stroke, in which case the player incurs a penalty of two strokes.
