Playing Lake of Isles @ Foxwoods casino for the first time on 10/10/09 and just want to get a feel for how it is going to be. I just started playing golf this year and after 10 rounds, my index is about a 19.

The course has a rating of 73 and a slope of 137 from the Gold Tees. I am playing with 2 scratch golfers and a 12, so I'm assuming the scratch golfers will play from the Tips(76.5/146 @ 7,252yards!!! ) and the 12index and I will play from the Golds.

I can only carry my drives(3wood, no driver in my bag) about 230-250, so will that present any issues off the tee?

Hello. I have played Lake of Isles twice before, and really enjoyed it. In fact it is my favorite course out of all that I have played (including several in Vegas, Myrtle Beach, and Orlando). My handicap index is currently a 10, however when I played out at Foxwoods I was probably a bit higher. I can hit my drives typically 250-275, and sometimes if I get a hold of them farther than that.

Here's the skinny on the course. It is amazing, but in several instances there are quite long forced carries depending on what tees you play from. I think we did 2nd from the back...I don't recall what color those markers are. I think the yardage was high 6000's. 17 and 18 are actually borderline ridiculous with how far you have to carry it to cover the lakes which are in play. I would say a solid 245 in the air to make it over from the 2nd to back tees. There was also a hole on the front nine that had the tees moved back to the tips (they were trying to allow some of the tees to get some downtime or rest), which had an insane carry. I think 3 of us knew we couldn't carry it but we hit a drive any ways for kicks and all waved good bye to our Titleists. Then we moved up to a closer tee.

Besides those carry issues, the course is great. I like it because it has a lot of elevation changes and a lot of trees. Many of the other "resort" courses I've played down South are a lot more flat and don't have any woods. Maybe I'm just too much of a New England guy at heart.

That being said, when I played there I believe I was either in the high 90's or low 100's. Make sure that you bring plenty of golf balls. There are lots of wooded waste areas that you have to carry and steer clear of.

I can't wait to go back and play again. I wait until the rates are reduced in early November or late October when it starts getting frigid out. The course is really amazing - definitely recommend it.

I had same experience as Andy. I live in this area and played Lake of Isles a few imes. Beautiful challenging course, loved playing it. Long forced carries on 17 and 18 and several other tough holes. The Silver tees are pretty challenging at 71.5/135. The typical advice from locals is to play up one more tee than you think.

Thanks for your replies guys. Yeah, the only thing I am really worried about is the carry distance off the tee. I don't carry a driver, and my 3w carry is about 230. I guess I may be a little too ambitious to try and play the 2nd back Tees without a driver and a 19 index(only 10 rds). I guess maybe I should play the Middle Tees @ 6300yds instead of the 6700yds tees...

Anyone else play the course?

Hey Andy, what are the rates in late Oct or early Nov?

Depending on the day of the week and the date during the month of October the rates range from 120.00 to 195.00. I actually did a quick check on the website; this thread got me interested in playing out there again. I still say that the 120 dollar rate is worth it for the quality of the course. I guess everybody has their own scale of what they are willing to pay for golf.

That rate includes range balls, a bag tag, and a yardage book. The course has these chests periodically scattered throughout that are filled with bottled waters that you can just grab if you want them. Also when the cart girl comes around you can take whatever you want for free (well I mean less giving them a tip). Its definitely more of a resort type experience.
