I can't seem to find this answer anywhere. What is the definition of "worst holes" in Callaway scoring? In other words, let's say I need to subtract a player's 2 worst holes from their score. If they had an

8 on a par 3 (5 over)
a 9 on a par 4 (5 over)
and a 9 on a par 5 (4 over)

Since double par stroke control is applied to ADJUSTED GROSS, which 2 of the 3 holes do I subtract? would it be the highest stroke count (2-9's) or the highest over par (8 strokes on par 3, 9 strokes on par 4)?

Since we are having a shotgun start with SHAMBLE format, I'm not interested in throwing out holes 16-18.

If you can provide a link to where you found the "worst holes" definition, it would be much appreciated

Thanks!

For the Callaway Scoring system, when figuring the "worst scores" par is not taken into consideration.

Here's a link to one explaination...

Sorry, forgot to answer your question about which scores to deduct. Your 2 scores would be the 9 from the par 5, and then an 8. The 9 on the par 4 is adjusted down to an 8 (double par). Hope that helps.

(FWIW - The Peoria System is much easier to administer than Callaway IMO.)

Thanks for the reply. Since I posted this, I've decided to go with Peoria since it's basically based on luck. Callaway scoring almost always has the scratch or single digit handicap player finishing on top anyway.

Good decision. You might talk to the club pro at the course your playing for recommendations on which 6 holes to choose. Generally, I like to pick the most difficult holes when using Peoria for a scramble and the easier holes when doing an individual event like Shamble. Have fun!

Why don't you guys just flip a coin to determine who wins? Sounds about as fair...
