Why do they say these inane comments? Gary Koch said that about Phil when Phil made his chip. How does on become a particular gallery favorite at that very moment at that part of the course? So if Tiger had made it, he would be a fan favorite, everybody's favorite?

hahaha

Phil was a gallery favorite way before that chip. He relates to the gallery on a regular basis. He talks to people, hands out gloves and balls, and throws one liners around now and then. He has an agressive style of play.

Koch was right on the mark. I've seen Phil catch money from Gary McCord's tower after making a big putt. He is a bit playful at times. People love the guy...his smile, his demeanor and his style of play. If Brian Gay had made that chip, Koch wouldn't have said that. Phil is a very special player.

Tiger is a gallery favorite too...but a different kind. When he approaches a tee or green, you are looking at the most famous athlete in the world. He commands your attention. Everything he basically does makes history. He is awe inspiring.

I dont get the point of this topic? Unless you are just pointing out that Koch is stateing the obvious? Of course Phil is a favorite of the gallery, maybe not everyones favorite......but who is?

Any guy who peels $100.00 bills out to anyone in the gallery who happens to get in the way of a stray drive like Phil, certainly is a fan favorite in my book.
