So I just got home from a trip up to Monterey, and was lucky enough to play Cypress Point. All i can say is "WOW"! The views alone on that course are amazing, and knowing that players such as Hogan has walked the fairways were almost spooky. I had a 4 foot birdie chance on #5, and missed it, but on #6 was about 30 feet from the cup for birdie and made the putt. Golf is such a funny game, and that course made me relize how much I love the game. Such a magical place, and a day I will never forget. Sorry, I just had to share..

How'd you do on 16? wink.gif

15- Great par 3, with stunning views: made Par
16- Card says par 3, but the green looks like it is a million miles away: made Bogey
17- Awesome Par 4, with a huge tree right in the middle of the fairway, pin was on the left so i played for the right side of the green and had a great two putt: Par
18- Short par 4, but if your to far left on the fairway you pretty much blocked by a tree that over hangs the green: Bogey

15,16,and 17 are arguably the best holes in golf.

Awesome man, congrats. That place has got to put your love of golf and life on a whole new level. If given the choice to play Cypress Point or Augusta National for my last round, without having played either I'd say Cypress Point.

That's right, you won't forget it. I remember playing there in the early 70s, my one and only time. It's that special. Good for you!

Can't make that decision until I get to play Augusta National. I have played Cypress Point and I can tell you it was one of my life's Top Ten moments.

I proposed to my wife on the 15th tee at Cypress. She said yes, btw.

I played Cypress in 1984. It is by far my favorite course I have ever played.
The 15th hole is the most beautiful hole I have ever played.
Played Pebble Beach, Spy Glass, The Olympic club in the same week.
Played a lot of very very nice golf courses in my life.
Cypress is truly a very very special place.
Now if I could only play Augusta.

I am going back to play Cypress next month. I have played it multiple times and the mystique never dulls. It is truly an out of body experience each time I go back. I remember my first trip in 1989 and that first feeling is always present, no matter. Each stroll around Cypress brings either a new story or a new view that I hadn't seen in past trips.
If God has a golf course in heaven, its Cypress Point!

That is terrific. Glad you got to play it. Got any pictures by chance?

Just out of interest how did/do you guys all manage to get on at Cypress? I read that they claimed to have once turned away JFK when he visited unannounced for a round.

Nikm77-
I'm an assistant pro in Southern California, and the club I work at offers a temporary membership for people who have to travel here for proton therapy at a local hospital. One of our temporary members happened to be a member at Cypress, and offered a foursome to myself.

In my case, my dad knew someone that knew a member and it was arranged. We never met the member as in those days it was not required to play with the member. The pro shop was notified, we were assigned a caddy and off we went. I suppose that's how it works for most, knowing the right person.

Just curious, is that proton therapy at Loma Linda? They have a very active proton therapy program there.

I did a similar trip myself. I played Cypress, Pebble, Spyglass, Olympic Club, and San Francisco Golf Club, what a time! Cypress is a very special place as is most of Monterey.

I was lucky enough to play Cypress in High School. Have a great picture of me teeing off on the 1st tee with a few deer grazing off on the right side. Truly unbelievable place.

BTW, I've played ANGC too & I would pick Cypress as my last round!!
