Today on ESPN Skip Bayless graded Tiger's 2009 season as an F! Saying he didn't win a major. I personally think Bayless is an idiot. Tiger played the most consistent I have probably seen a player play throughout an entire season. Let's not forget he came off a major knee surgery. I agree he should have at least bagged the PGA Championship having the lead through 54, but Y.E. Yang out played him on a day where Tiger never looked comfortable. Tiger won six times this year in some pretty good events and is most likely going to take home the Fedex Cup for the second time in two tries. Also referring to his interview before the Tour Championship this week if you take out his comeback at the Accenture Match play and his missed cut at Turnberry he finished in the top 10 everytime but once! How can that be an F season!?

Let's not forget that Bayless gets paid to be an idiot. Personally I'd give him a B+, a definite A+ if he finished what he started at the PGA.

Skip Bayless is an IDIOT. He is the true and pure definition of the word. I was home sick yesterday and was watching First Take and literally wanted to bash my TV in with a golf club listening to him. Tiger's season is an easy A IMO. It would be A+ if he had won a major.

Bayless is the biggest idiot on the face of the earth. He's that guy that says totally outlandish crap to get his name out there. He plays the bad guy. I just hope he doesn't really believe most of the stuff he says, I don't think anyone can be that ignorant.

Yeah that's ridiculous. I think coming off the surgery and winning 6 times (good chance thats 7 by the end of the week) gets any other player an A++ for the year. For Tiger, it's probably an A- because of the majors. Definitely would be an A if he had won the PGA.
ryanlago
Glad to hear everyone else agrees. Guys like Bayless drive me crazy!! Like what was said he just says "outlandish" idiotic things to get the exposure.

I feel the same way now about Rick Reilly, especially after his recent Jordan article. I'm not a Jordan fan or anything, but it sounds like someone always got picked last in gym class.

99% of current sports media members (especially on ESPN) mostly think that being reflexively, sociopathically contrarian is the same thing as being edgy or insightful. They regularly oscillate between asserting that whatever happened in the past 24 hours is the best/worst/greatest/most terrible thing ever and arguing over things that are patently silly (Is Tiger Woods more dominant than the Steelers D? Tune in so Skip Bayless can argue with Generic Washed Up Wide Receiver B!).

Then they cap it off by only using the most hackey, campy jokes possible (Michael Vick and Dog fighting!? That's fresh and unexplored territory! Green Bay fans are larger than your average American!? You're a regular Oscar Wilde!).

It almost makes me feel lucky for the less grating hackeyness of golf announcing.

Don't forget his wife having their second child.

I've always hate Bayless.

I wonder how Tiger would rank his own year? Probably "F", as did Nicklaus, Hogan, Palmer, Player, Faldo etc in any years that they did not manage to win a major when at their peaks......... just my thruppenny bits worth! wink.gif
Money03
ESPN is pretty much awful. The only guys I like are gammons, kurkijan, and olney from their baseball coverage and bill simmons cuz i'm a big nba nut.

Bayless is an idiot . . . . but I agree with him. Tiger's only competition is Jack, and every year he goes 0/4 is a failure (for him). Tiger's year is an A for anyone else.
sandy
A good solid B+ , especially impressive because of surgery. But no majors and really only in contention in 1 makes it a B+. Would have been an A+ for any other golfer. Jack had quite a few 0/4 major years. Particularly between 17 and 18.. Tiger has plenty of time, but he won't be winning any majors at 46. If he gets another good 6-8 years (unlikely 8) out of his latest knee surgery he should pass Jack fairly easily. 1994, 2002, 2008, 2008 (years of surgery) doesn't look good for more than 8 years.. After that he will be looking at pretty bad arthritis and possibly some relief with synvisc treatments before he will consider a replacement..

Tiger has said repeatedly that he feels he has had a great year. He's also noted being disappointed at not winning majors. But, he would not rate this year as an "F". At least based on his public comments.
walterjay25
I'd give him an A (A+ if he had won a major)...and I'm a Mickelson fan! Let's not forget he came back from major reconstructive knee surgery. Don't even get me started on Skippy Bayless.
engofct
I agree that Bayliss is an idiot for giving him an F. I would give Tiger a B only because he didn't win a major.

Eventhough Tiger didn't win a major, all of them were exciting to watch. Tiger vs. Phil on Masters sunday,
Tom Watson at the British, Duvall at the US Open, then it topped off with YE Yang taking down Tiger.

absolutely. i can't stand Reilly, either.

99% of what he writes is sarcasm and the rest just isn't worth reading.

sleepy_augusto
Even by Tiger's own high standards, the season is at least a success because of the knee repair.

Let's ask Ernie about Tiger's season after surgery. He would have good insight.

Tiger's F season is a good career for anyone else. Ridiculous.
muddawg1
A is my grade! He said it is a great year & who am I to argue?
caller
I give Tiger A for this year

Coming from knee injury recovery, it is not unusual to not win anything this year
Some players will take few years to get to where they were.

But being Tiger, he is back into shape and winning outthere

If he won major, it would be A+, but I think he has done well this year skipping many months of playing

i think this is wrong.PTI,Mike and Mike,E60,Around the Horn all the spec shows are awesome.Ive watched first take about 3 times for about total of 20 minutes.i found bayless annoying and somewhat lacking fundemental sports knowledge, and have no idea why this show is on.i guess a pretty girl combined with a contrarioan makes for some good ratings

now to Tiger : the only person could give him less then A(just comparing his results with everyone else) would be Tiger himself, being the perfectionist he is...
JRL
Bayless is a complete and total idiot, Tiger gets an A- from me. The only thing holding him back from what should have been an A+ season was when he lost the PGA after a 54 hole lead. Besides that, I think Tiger has had an extremely successful season.
TWshoot67
Bayless = Clueless
Tigers Season = A great career for any other PGA player.
I give it an A to Tiger after major knee surgery a little over a year ago.
Tiger will make up for this season's Majors by winning atleast 2 in the 2010 season!

Tim
TOUCH
B- no majors at all.

I am a Phil fan and am going so crazy happy tonight.

Skip Bayless

Who? And people still listen to the radio?

mosesgolf
B+. He needs a major to get an A. This is Tiger's grade scale and does not apply to anyone else on Tour.
spring7
Woods has always said its about the majors, he won ZERO majors this year and got, got by YE freakin Yang.......By his own desires and past speech he gets an F.
Lefty17
I'd give him a B. Great year by anyone else is standards but this is Tiger. He was inconsistent most of the year. Either found the fairway or if not the next fairway over. Couldn't putt for most of the year. Usually when it counted in majors. His play in majors was bad. Had some trouble closing tourneys.

Considering what we know about Tiger he'll be happy that his knee held up and the swing was rounding in to form but aside from that he will probably say he left alot of there.
cjcrook
Everybody's talking about number of wins but how about money? This year he made $10.5 million plus the $10 million for FedEx Cup, totalling over $20.5 million for the year in golf earnings alone, compared to Mickelson and Stricker in 2nd place at $8.3 million including FedEx bonus money. Not to mention 14 top tens in 17 events played. Sounds like an A to me.
ryanlago
Don't know how you could say he was inconsistent. Granted he wasn't always closing the way he seems to, he was in contention in almost all the tournaments he played in. And his driver has always been suspect like that. It's either great or he has to hit amazing second shots (think about all the highlights).
Chunkylover77
Bayless is an a** but he gets paid to be one. Tiger's season for any other golfer would be an A. However Tiger grades himself by whether or not he won Majors. I would give him a B. Great season but he didn't get a major.
Huskypride28
Bayless is an idiot.

Career year for anyone else. Average to Good year for Tiger any other year had he not just come off knee surgery. All in all I'd give him an A.
Swingtheclub
Tiger won over twenty million dollors that is and A plus by any standard imaginable
rlynham
Tiger's season didn't start until April and he wasn't able to practice fully until several weeks later. He was quoted as saying he did better this year than he thought he would. Winning 6 times can't be anything worse than B+ IMO given the circumstances.
Audreyone
No Major wins. B+. Anyone else on tour, probably a solid A.
